Sysadmin that really enjoys working with computers.

  1. At least two groups are now breeding as a single population. The genetic diversity might be more spread out over the population. As I understand the article there were two functionally separate groups as late as 20 years ago (already 100 years after the introduction of the Texas bison to the original Montana heard) and now they are recorded as being a single population.
  2. What about journalctl?
  3. Specifically the Super needs to have individualized colors per letter. Where S is red M cannot be and therefore is blue instead.
  4. I too got thrown off by what they said. Not that the article was really worse off for it, but it took me a moment to parse the meaning.
  5. Yea, but, like, phones are digital cameras…
  6. No one tell them about Cobal
  7. Seems like it’s just because the author used the word delve which the use of has been linked to AI writing. Pretty flimsy evidence though, maybe the surgery really does like the word.
  8. You could be right but if you do it in a large pasta pot so only put in enough water to cover the noodles. No more. Add more if needed as the noodles soak the water.
  9. Use a short wide pan and just barely keep the noodles covered. You will get better pasta, easier cacio e Pepe and reduced energy costs related to pasta.
  10. There is no substitute for cold hard facts. LLMs do not provide that unless it’s literally the easiest thing for them to do and even then not always.

In the case you were in I would go out of my way to feed the docs to the LLM and then use the LLM to interrogate the docs and then verify the understanding I got from the LLM with a personal reading of the docs that were relevant.

You might think it takes just as long of not longer to do it my way rather than just reading the docs myself. Sometimes it can. But as you get good at the workflow you find that the time sien finding the relevant docs goes down and you get an instant plausible interpretation of the docs added too. You can then very quickly produce application code right away and then docs of the code you write.

  11. Because it is for Taiwan
  12. A screenshot would help
  13. I know that it was number three as it a few weeks ago
  14. This is like an xkcd comic as a blog post
  15. Taking a step back from the current incident which is obviously tragic, this is both a testament to how safe flying is and how hard it is to trust human judgment to tell one radar blip from another. At least with some earlier incidents there was less easy ways to check on the flight. The iron curtain was still up and ADS-B transponders weren’t invented. And yet still, here we are with planes getting shot out of the skies.
  16. Yea the docs on the Fedora side are rough. I would help but I don’t know enough because the learning was so hard.
  17. I was because I can’t imagine somehow finding a heritage cow breed pasteurization group here in the US.
  18. Yea forked conversations UX is definitely one of my most desired features.
  19. Yes, but because of the way that the milk industry is shaped in the US it’s exceedingly hard to get and many people are afraid of it.
  20. It totally was. Bit different. Excel has Lotus keybindings available to this day, the spreadsheet was the home computer’s 1st killer app and Microsoft killer it and took the market share.
  21. Yea I’d like at least 5-6 9s in this metric
  22. That post was from literally thousands of days ago and seems to be in relation to some confusion at that time.

Honestly to me you can see the tensions that led to the license change in that post. It’s largely consistent with what antirez has said in the post and in this thread.

  23. Seems like that explicitly allows SaaS kind of offerings so it wouldn’t si what Redis wants as I understand.
  24. Can you link some info on the portion about contracts having been rejected by the courts? I’m having trouble finding specifics on that myself.
  25. I’ve read about this approach in the past and am curious if anyone has any experience trying to get an organization to buy into it.
  26. Boy are we lol
  27. It’s not quite the same thing as a commercial vendor lock in but it’s close.

You can have Postgres lock in as much as Wordpress has MySql lock in.

I agree that you have less Linux lock in but Docker still requires a Linux kernel everywhere it goes. BSD need not apply.

  28. K8s always seems like the tool that people choose to avoid cloud vendor lock in but there is something to be said for C k8s lock in as well as the article points out.

If you end up with exotic networking or file system mounts you can just be stuck maintaining k8s forever and some updates aren’t so stable so you have to be more vigilant that windows updates.

  29. Tbh service workers are different across browsers and the specific implementations should be taken into account. That or I am bad at it.
