- > Have you ever laughed out loud at a cartoon?
I laughed out loud multiple times clicking on links in this very thread, reading comics I've read dozens (and dozens) of times before.
- > Treat everybody fairly and equally.
Are you suggesting that this is apolitical?
- Yeah. I know. That's what I was trying to explain to genewitch, but we're all just talking past each other.
- I hope, then, that you advocate for policies that actually reduce abortions, rather than attempting to ban them outright.
- Right? I'm confused. Saying "oh the ads are in the audio file" is exactly like saying that "the ads are in the html file."
It's not like the client app is inserting them.
I mean, I guess I can imagine an exceptionally-scummy podcast app, but that's not what we're talking about here.
- Okay: Now define "adult content."
Sure, fine - we can agree on the hardcore porn. Maybe we can even agree on exposed female nipples?
What about sex education material? What about any content that includes an LGBT person? Because if you think I'm being hyperbolic, read page five of Project 2025.
- I think we're converging on "loss leader."
- The search term you're looking for is "age verification laws".
- My dude, Hacker News is the ad.
This forum doesn't exist to get you to comment on news stories; it exists to attract tech people to YC.
- > all ads in podcasts are explicitly put into the audio file by the people making the podcast
Yes, but those are dynamic too: if you go back and download old episodes, for example, you'll get the current run of ads.
- It is not, of course.
- Friend, it doesn't take superpowers. It just takes being on the same team.
- Awesome now they know who I am, too.
This your first encounter with a chilling effect?
- I am skeptical that Amtrak is outright lying about this, but of course I can imagine the motivation: they get to blame delays on an external factor.
- How a I supposed to know that the masked person hauling off my neighbour is, in fact, actual law enforcement? How can I be sure they will ever even see that courtroom?
Did I just witness an arrest or a kidnapping? Who knows! And when the police become secret police, is there a difference?
- > He generally seems quite a neutral interviewer
Maybe (maybe) ten years ago you could get away with this opinion. I'm not sure how you could say this in 2025 in good faith.
- It's funny you mention Veritasium in particular, since he hates the clickbait as much as anyone, and made a video specifically about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2xHZPH5Sng
tldw You're basically forced to structure your thumbnails and titles that way if you want your videos to actually be seen. Blame YouTube's recommendation algorithm, not the creators.
- Don't worry; it was very obvious.
- > Wow this administration is f*ing batshit insane.
You're allowed to say "fucking".
- > Hipster
Is it 2007 again already?
- Or, similarly:
> I want AI to do my laundry and dishes so that I can do art and writing, not for AI to do my art and writing so that I can do laundry and dishes.

- > I can imagine a jet flighter simulation might be good for VR but I'm not even sure that's such a thing these days.
Oh people absolutely use it for this and it is an excellent use case - mainly because you stay seated.
But yeah. Pretty niche.
- Today? No, maybe not yet. But you'd be a fool to look at the actions of the current admin and not see that that's where they're headed.
But here's something from today: "A lot of people are saying maybe we'd like a dictator." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koruWF1cfyc
I think you're dramatically underestimating how big it was during its run.
