- fireflash38For now. With Google blocking ad block ability on their browsers, what's to stop them from blocking ad blockers in their OS?
- Don't forget you can use AI to turn a 50 word blog post into a 2,000 word one!
- The problem isn't that AI makes obtuse documentation usable. It's that it makes good documentation unread.
There's a lot of good documentation where you learn more about the context of how or why something is done a certain way.
- It's why the 3 branches of government worked so well for the US for so long. They each want to protect themselves, and are effectively at odds with each other unless there is almost universal agreement on something.
However that has completely fallen apart with a toothless Congress, and a executive branch that can stack the 3rd branch with similar minded idealogues.
- There's money to be made on arbitration of orphan crushing! If I don't do it someone else will.
- CGI is still bad tbh. Look at all the boring stuff produced for Marvel.
- Interesting. I don't know if you intended it, but algorithm free means no recommendations to me - even no recommended videos alongside existing videos. You want a video? You have to search for something.
I think that is a surprisingly good solution. You can still access educational information, or really whatever videos you want, but you have to actively seek them out rather than ingest whatever is spit out at you.
- There are indeed actors who only respect might. That is not universal. Preaching might is right is also not universal.
It is still important to have might even if you aren't in that camp because inevitably you will run into people with that worldview and they cannot be reasoned with without might.
- When only some things have icons, it's almost like a flag that these things are more special/useful/used. I think that is by far more useful than everything having an icon that you have to think about (or see the text next to it) to understand
- Modern streaming is the same thing, except it's hidden under the illusion of choice.
- If you're using Firefox or run Linux, you won't be getting the stream quality you have paid for.
- AI does the exact same thing in my experience. First try is not right. Nor the second. If you're lucky the third might.
At that point I'd rather look at SO
- That's also rather shit, unless you're using a prescribed browser and operating system.
We've rebuilt cable boxes, but somehow they're even shittier than before.
- AI pulls its answers from stack overflow.
What will happen when SO is gone? When the problems go beyond the corpus the AI was trained on?
- AI reminds me of combing through stackoverflow answers. The first one might work... Or it might not. Try again, find a different SO problem and answer. Maybe third times the charm...
Except it's all via the chat bot and it isn't as easy to get it to move off of a broken solution.
- My experience with using AI is that it's a glorified stack overflow copy paster. It'll even glue a handful of SO answers together!
But then you run into classic SO problems... Like the first solution doesn't work. Nor the second one. And the third one introduces a completely different coding style. The last one is implemented in pure sh/GNU utils.
One thing it is absolutely amazing at: digesting things that have bad documentation, like openssl C api. Even then you still gotta be on the watch for hallucinations, and audit it very thoroughly.
- Are you saying this like it's a good thing? Cause Altman is representative of everything wrong with SV.
- Other commenters are raking Apple over the coals for bad experiences with MacOS. By the same token, Windows 11 is beyond awful. It's a complete buggy mess, never mind the secure boot restrictions.
- Don't forget they will brand anything they don't like as porn/bad for children. Like gay people daring to exist.
- I really should take the "invest in companies you hate" advice seriously.
