  1. You can debur it as part of the manufacturing process, and then when it gets powder coating it smooths out even more. But you can just embed the sheet metal edges in a groove on a wooden side.
  2. The heretic GPT OSS version is still refusing 58/100 prompts, so not perfect. Gemma version is 3/100
  3. Regarding case material for productizing, you could consider a combination of plywood and bent sheet metal, eg like a Moog. Also check out dato.mu for a few examples of kid proof synth enclosures.
  4. If the Firefox deal doesn’t make sense (too much?), then what is the hidden strategic rationale?

    >Things are only being held together by technicians who are aging out of the workforce

    100%. This terrifies me.

Loss of compartmentalization in society, mostly due to the internet, needs examination.

  5. Why would the UK government continue to allow e2e iMessage? Is it because they have an existing wiretap law?
  6. Shared public IP?
  7. Could anyone shed some light on the password reset email “hack”? I don’t really understand the attack sequence if the attacker doesn’t have access to your inbox. Even if you clicked them they don’t get access. My conclusion is trolling / annoyance.

The same thing happens to my Instagram account, which is an old 3-letter username that is desirable. I get hundreds of reset emails per month, all generated by the real service with legit outbound links.

  8. 1.0 - algorithmic ranking of real content, with direct links

2.0 - algorithmic feeds of real content with no outbound links - stay in the wall

3.0 - slop infects rankings and feeds, real content gets sublimated

4.0 - algorithmic feeds become only slop

5.0 - no more feeds or rankings, but on demand generative streams of slop within different walled slop gardens

6.0 - 4D slop that feeds itself, continuously turning in on itself and regenerating

  9. Eventually airlines will just whitelist IP ranges for free messaging-only access.
  10. Hydraulic disc brakes aren't really overkill on an e-bike, it's a safety thing. You really don't want to skimp out on stopping power when your heavy bike has a powerful motor.
  11. Anyone setup a Rabbit R1 with lineage?
  12. It’s a zine. Been around since the 80’s. Hackers / security industry types read and publish to it.
  13. I believe it’s around 15 minutes.
  14. I highly recommend the documentary Plastic Wars (Frontline). It’s about how the plastics industry made a major marketing push for recycling starting in the 80s, in order to avoid plastic bans and ensure production continued to increase. It shifted the burden of plastic waste from producers to consumers, and we are essentially still in that conceptual space (at least in the US).
  15. His email client even puts a green check mark next to the fake NPM email. UX fail.
  16. I agree, he doesn’t seem the type to leak ops.
  17. Or, he might have been raided because he was suspected of leaking the story to NYT.
  18. President can authorize precision strikes and special ops if there’s imminent threat justification. I’m not arguing either way if this strike was justified, but there’s legal pathways for it. The congress rule is about declaring war.
  19. WW2, William Knudsen, president of General Motors, was directly commissioned in as a 3 star general. He was in charge of War Production. Sometimes, deep industry expertise can’t wait for OCS. Granted, this was wartime.
  20. What would you move to?
  21. Slight correlation to Cisco Live conference happening right now. Heroku network admins preoccupied?
  22. You can absolutely get rid of ads on an iOS device. You just need to use YouTube in safari.
  23. It's a screenless & buttonless phone. Slightly smaller form factor than regular iphone, with comparatively bigger battery and powerful processing for on-device models.
  24. I'm seeing messages double post for some reason, both ones I send and ones from my coworkers. The 2nd message fails the first time. And the occasional connection error.
  25. I’m actually comforted by the fact that NSA needed encryption turned off to spy.
  26. This. There’s even a QR code you can scan so you don’t have to type on the mobile device.
  27. That's a very good point. The system design of the airtags assumed a much shorter battery life, which may have led to decisions that would introduce issues at 10x battery life. Thinking more like overflow issues. But could also be a complete non-issue. Hard to say.
  28. Great references! Thank you.
  29. Tbh I love the simplicity of the hard coded saddle post + support. Both being made out of the same tube size.
