  1. Now nobody willing to keep his job could afford flirting with hot supervisor and admitting mistakes. If they even spoke a common language, I mean.
  2. Never had this problem - so far - on Linux. Maybe it has something to do with using a sucker operating systems.
  3. I use both uBO and NoScript and wondered if I really needed uBO if I blocked YouTube as I've planned.

However, it leads to Mozilla's earlier weird design choice where you have to install addon if you only want to disable JavaScript on sites - or allow it from only the selected domains.

Years later I haven't found a sensible explanation why they ditched that choice.

I've understood that you can still do it in Chrom(e/ium) and combined with a good updated blocklist in /etc/hosts or like it would provide most of the functionality of an adblock.

  4. This is so interesting! I'm the only one using the grandparents' old posser at our summer cottage (boomers love hi-tech and electric appliances) and even after I made lots of experiments didn't realize the importance of time. Now when I think about it it seems obvious.
  5. We live in times where off-grid means it doesn't send user statistics home and ads back. How relieving that it meant electricity!
  6. That's exactly how I saw this as a kid!

Besides I never owned a set and when I played it with my friends I saw myself as some kind of intruder with a lot less rehearse and experience beating them with my superior logical skills and destroying their false sense of security and superiority. Good times!

  7. The thing is that when it starts being about the kids it means the bottom 90% has entered the internet and you should be away because it is already lost.

I wonder if there's something like internet accelerationism - push things like having friends or watching movies online off the cliff as soon as possible.

  8. Also, how many of those patients actually lived longer because they didn't need to endure the operation and its side effects.
  9. It is still debated if therapies even work. The evidence is moving to the direction that they don't.
  10. Also it would be pretty hard for officers to make soldiers do bayonet attack if it weren't known they'd probably face little or no resistance. People tend to value their lives.
  11. The real explanation is that you cannot find new sex partners in bars anymore. If there's no sex, there's no reason for any kind of social life, human relations, romance, etc. anymore.

It used to be hushed because people thought nothing can keep young people away from each others bodies anyway. However, now it's apparently happened - social media, woke culture, fight for jobs...

People think it is smartphones and social skills. The real reason is men are blackpilled and stopped trying. What we are seeing is only the beginning.

  12. Giving up YouTube and any other video content online would be the best life hack you can make in 2026.
  13. Actually the price and quality range of cassette players is wider than probably in any other format. The good ones were really good.
  14. In crypto the people who cannot grok the maths behind are incapable of being free agents in any way. They need the masters and oppression. The same goes for any community.
  15. People use clothes now.
  16. We were read parts of it in kindergarten. I was fascinated by the desert, at the time I loved deserts, even if I saw one only as an adult. Two years later I borrowed it from the school library. My friends teased me because they thought it is girly. I read it and found a bit confusing and boring.

Later it got more popular and adults found all kinds of deep things. It was so sentimental I've never got back to the book if I hadn't read it first as a children's book. In my mid twenties I got my own copy from a girlfriend who saw me as a little prince.

Now about a week ago I reread it again. Well, you can find all kinds of things in it but I think you should read it as a kid first time.

Children need to learn a lot of things they understand only as adults. It builds a real connection to the stories and ideas. Adults cannot absorb new thoughts anymore. They try but it's too late.

Like if you haven't read Nietzsche and Dostoevsky first time at the age of say 16 or 18 you will never be an intellectual. You didn't get the right impulses at the time. You cannot built on shallow experiences you can have after the childhood and youth.

  17. Real women are sexy. Especially the ones you know personally. The vulgar creatures posing in porn sites not so, but act as a substitute.
  18. I watched the original series as a kid and when a local TV station sent reruns of 1999 at the nineties and I was so amazed by the design that I only realized how rotten the plots were when I bought a DVD box a decade or two later.

One has to understand that in the 1990s the old popular culture was very much gone. Now it is different. Everything old preserved in the net which is actually probably the biggest cultural change the internet has brought.

Besides I learned why I've always liked wearing black leather gloves: Balor, the evil artist. The coolest character in the series.
