  1. European countries "acquired" quite a few Chinese trade secrets in the past. And from eachother to be fair.

IP is one of those things you invent once you made it to the top.

  2. A US drone industry would still have to compete with China on the global market. The entire developing world doesn't give a shit about US sanctions.
  3. Oh they will absolutely notice when they have to wait an entire day at the DMV for an extension of their driver's license.
  4. That's because tech billionaires don't need all of that. They live in a bubble.

It's the same with Trump. Do you think he has ever been inside a grocery store?

  5. I honestly don't know what the US government thinks they will accomplish with this. It will only strengthen European resolve- countries hate being bullied. It's one of things that makes people rally around the flag.
  6. I mean if you really have money there are companies that can get you on a private jet. No customs, no luggage check in, no Heathrow/JFK.
  7. I made the mistake of not checking a bag when I ordered at the website. Had to pay 70 euro dropping off my suitcase at the airport.

It's a mistake that I will only make once and never again!

  8. That's the tragedy of Hong Kong. They never got the sympathy of the mainland.

And I cannot escape the feeling that a lot of Americans believe that a democratic China would be friends with the US...

  9. China can trade directly with the rest of the world through Shanghai- it no longer needs the middleman.

That prosperity was based on a system that no longer exists. Hong Kong is a normal Chinese city now.

  10. My first TV in the early 2000s (Xbox!) was a Siemens. Another illustrious megacorp that doesn't make televisions anymore.
  11. Microsoft supporting something doesn't mean that you have to use it. There's something as personal responsibility.
  12. In the Netherlands the post office is contractually obliged to deliver mail but they are LOSING money on it.

Even the government themselves went full digital... Personally I think that if people think post services are a national priority it should be subsidised with tax money. Cannot expect a private company to burn money.

  13. It is a non event for consumers the only ones who care much are artists.

    As always the market decides.

  14. In my country if the police is really serious, and I mean national crisis level of serious, they can go full China and track everyone. They have the means.

Like presumably the US has doorbell camera databases and every car on the highway is electronically flagged?

  15. Most of the toxic bullshit comes from America though.

China just wants us to buy cheap Chinese crap.

  16. I always find it surprising that apparently it is easy to BAN someone's account but nobody has the power to UNBAN.

But I suppose when you get to the size of Amazon a million bans becomes a statistic...

  17. Racism against Chinese fuels Chinese patriotism and nationalism which is weaponised by the CCP.

I believe that a democratic China would still want to beat the West and become a superpower.

  18. In the 60s and 70s European countries were giant construction yards. It gave many people jobs and we still enjoy the infrastructure today!
  19. At least if you buy a 5080 today I guarantee you that it will run triple A games for the next 5 years.

Back in the 90s hardware aged like lettuce.

  20. Yep Stalin literally got daily reports about it. He probably knew as much as Roosevelt.
