- et-alBecause we're all temporarily embarrassed startup founders who haven't exited yet.
- Where is this a solved problem? No one likes these things. Seth Rogan reflects the zeitgeist in Platonic.
- Aside from yoghurt, you’ve only listed carbs. Sure oatmeal has protein (and fiber), but not as much as eggs.
- Yeah, I was surprised stories of Volvo's EX90 lidar damaging camera sensors didn't get more traction: https://www.thedrive.com/news/volvo-ex90s-lidar-sensor-will-...
One would hope there would be more regulation around this.
- I fear (Apple) will do something that allows the government to do what it wants (with a bit more work) without explicitly installing something.
For example, with the UK encryption debacle, Apple removed Advanced Data Protections (e2e encryption) for iCloud users in the UK. So users' notes, photos, emails are possibly open.
- FYI two years ago, the Indian government shut down mobile service in the state of Punjab to catch one person:
- The parent poster's example was more apt with US Steel.
Palantir on the otherhand is a well known defense contractor and its stock price is arguably propped up by the US Department of Defen -- I mean WAR -- having an infinite budget.
Don't be licking Thiel and Karp's boots.
- FYI if you're a US citizen, you can opt out of the biometric photo review. Of course there's still plenty of CCTV elsewhere.
- I think with a lot of these missions, you had the commanders who were idealists, or those seeking fame and fortune, and then you have the all workers who just didn’t have better options.
We’d like to think of our military as volunteer service-people, but the reality is that it’s a pathway out of poverty for many. So how much “choice” to believe in the mission is there?
- Yup, we all go through difference phases of life.
We have a nice airbed (oxymoron?) in our apartment that gets used maybe 3-4 times a year. It takes up more space than the author's backpack, but it's also great whenever a friend or family member would like to visit on short notice (along with a set of sheets, towels, collection of hotel toothbrushes...).
- From the article:
I occasionally see people saying “well, if you don’t want to be in photos published online, don’t be in public spaces”.
This is nonsense, for a number of reasons. Clearly, one should be able to exist in society, including going outside one’s own home, without needing to accept this kind of thing.
In any case, here, the issue is somewhat different, since it is a private site, where people engage in private activity (a hobby).
- This is a perennial topic:

It’s tougher to quantify and building a connected community than just profiting off users, though.
- Stringed instruments use goat or sheep intestines. And drums are from their skin (leather).
- > I just need a device and internet connection and I can recover enough of my life to get home
How do you deal with 2FA? Do you memorize a few of your backup codes?
- Agreed 100%. This op-ed on a site called design systems is ironic.
The purpose of design systems is for visual consistency. If someone needs to freehand some ideas, bust out a blank sheet of paper or Illustrator, but when designing a new page for a app, we want all that baggage of existing components and layouts.
- Eh, software engineers throughout the ZIRP had the choice of working at plenty of companies. People chose to work at Facebook for the money disregarding all other concerns. That's it.
- > Where else in SV are you going to go anyway? Every company does the same thing.
That's like saying mechanical engineers can only work at Raytheon or Lockheed Martin. Or biotech people can only work at Purdue Pharma.
There are companies in SV who are making products for actual users. Just look outside adtech.
- Thanks for clarifying!
- > For what it's worth: I like Organic Maps for being more lightweight, quicker rendering & simpler configuration than OSMand. But it (still? haven't used in a while) does lack some useful features like points of interest (supermarkets, gas stations & such).
Am I misinterpreting something? This is because of the underlying OSM data. So one should add these places to OSM so downstream apps will show the places you want, right?
- The Garmin 540/840/1040 bike computers have a solar option but it’s not sufficient to completely power the device. It just slows the drain by a few points.
