  1. I realised over the years that many friends of mine went through troublesome experience because of the faith of their parents. I genuinely believe my parents were A) trapped in a system B) wanted the best for their kids.

Having kids it would break my heart if they would cancel the contact - but at the end if parents can’t admit mistakes maybe as Christian they have not learned humility and asking for forgiveness- alao something is see my parents struggling. I am willing to forgive and forget - but I still see a same extreme conviction that what they do is all correct and they way to live in faith.

PS: Edit - I just saw you wrote: Love not fear! Thats so powerful- fear was the best description of our education as well and I am so sad about this… why did it has to come that far?!

  2. Same age and while coming not from abuse but from difficult extreme-christian education I am torn between letting my parents have too much say in my life today. However as you say: I realise that my time with them is going to end and I don’t want them gone.

Wondering how you found a way to spend time with them and if you openly speaking about the limited time left and the past with them?

  3. Pebble user here - the old ones:).

I use the todo app to speak to create my shopping list before going to the store. I look into the fridge and little room to check whats needed. In the shop I tick off stuff.

It is life changing? No, but one central place that is intelligent would be nice:

    - remind me off - add to shopping list - etc

  4. Its great however I still think they could simplify usage: - admin vs config menu - I always search in both - mounted folders vs backup folders: I would welcome a Simple Filter in the main view as I find the folder view ugly - Initial setup with all the jobs a big complicated
  5. I kept beeing a fan of Synology mainly for their apps and ease of use.

I have bought a used DS920+ with 20GB or Ram - still a perfect combo of transcoding and docker. However since I started discovering the world of selfhosted apps, Synology has no unique selling point anymore. Their apps stalled in innovation and with this drama I would go for some dedicated linux hardware with docker and thats it. Most of the data fits on a simple 2Drive NAS today anyway.

  6. What this trend is going to push is more contract-to-hire where companies start hiring people as contractors for 1 month and let go who is not as expected. This exists today and I always refused to play the game. But I guess companies can either go back to in person interview or other methods.
  7. 100percent - that is the single thing holding me back to preorder. The time 2 body would be an instant buy.
  8. Why was that frame choosen over the other ones? I fee PTR and PTS where by far the most modern looking and beautiful ones. Do you consider bringing that pebble 2 back with the same look?

PS: Pebble owner and daily user since more than 5 years here

  9. I am also very hesitant on buying an EV. Next to spyware - which is also a problem on my phone, I struggle more with the problem of having a built-in obsolescence. Any device with a dependence on an App, iOS is sooner or later going to force you to buy something new.

I love working and riding 20-30year old bicycles, sailboats, or even an old Toyota Jeep. Less dependency on software compatibility.

  10. Are you talking about the business model or the product?

Both a clear No. But the times of endless money for SaaS is likely gone and people are either looking for a complete SaaS&Hardware or for more intelligent SaaS that solve their problem differently.

  11. Thanks, so many interesting answers. As an European working for a US tech company - regular visiting but world traveler as my passion. Is there officially a list of countries one should not visit (just tourism) that could harm career prospects while working for a US company for visas? Thank you.
  12. European and 40 now as well. I think it is threefold: A) Age - I realise that the career I did set out for is not that glamorous as I thought (airport travel is not fun anymore, climbing the ladder is even more of sandwich/impostor syndrome, etc) B) Cost of living is so high in cities that you better optimise either where you live (parents for kids, stay in subsidised appartment or buy with a good deal, probably for remote work). So you make sure you have time for DIY instead if beeing consumed by your job… C) Layoffs - everywhere. The gras is not greener on the other side. So better to just “do your (minimal) work” while you can, fly under the radar and enjoy life on the side (hobbies, family etc).
  13. To me throwing toilets what THE to thing of HL2 (nit graphics or story.Of course made possible by a great physics engine. Wondering how HL3 can top that.
  14. The only thing that article says is: With AI you can iterate more rapidly/make prototypes faster.

Nothing new - we heard the same message with Figma, containerisation… you name it.

Having a good sense what problem solve, building rapport and trust with early customer and being a fantastic leader and communicatore has always been the most important skills. Thanks, nothing to see here…

  15. People say the stigma on hearing aid. But what about the stigma for people feeling that it is inadequate to walk around with airpods and people thinking that this inappropriate / say impolite?

If someone doesn’t know at least with hearing aid people will be respectful and try to speak clearly, which airpods - hard to tell the difference.

  16. Wow really nice. I am wondering how easy is it then to transfer the code to a webhoster and manage packages, update and security risks?

I am not a developer (can edit a few lines) but would be a target customer for these. I just wonder how to manage these risks compared to let’s say a CMS.

  17. I am still trying to understand what it has ontop of fun tech:

    - small kids would find their way back in their own compared to a airtag as they have am arrow. But then you don’t really have a map to understand where they are.

    - bigger kids have cell phones with locations sharing and sms/whatsapp I don’t see the need.

As much as I try to find a reason to buy I can’t for family usecases (except as a toy for fun) and on occasion where the towers are overloaded.

  18. The lab is not incredibly low throughput but also most of the experiments look at a single modality. Take a cell viability or FACS assay - while some additional measurements could be taken or analysed - most of the time the scientist will look at a single parameter. In a separate assay the cell (other passage/day) will be undertaken another assay resulting in nearly incomparable data.

The solution: Multimodal data and getting more info on experiments setup (often a bit of voodoo and not written down properly).

  19. Seems like I am not alone - I still tried for 4 years to make it work in pharma but realised that spending 3 days to grow primary cells to just get irreproducible results was not going go be satisfying.
  20. As a PM I am constantly discussing this topic with our founder. And I agree that it is not a magical on time event.

In our startup we have 3 or 4 large areas - on being data acquisition from legacy devices which gets us most of our B2B contracts. Yes there is a problem to solve as most of our customers don’t want to do it and we have now building blocks.

The problem: All our other areas like data analytics and other more fancy and higher margin areas we fail to achieve PMF and therefore since years we struggle to grow. What is it when only a small part of your company/product has PMF and another to expand (we can’t go to kore customers as specific market)?
