  1. There’s also the benefit of being naive - like, juniors can be seriously audacious when they haven’t been burned a million times. I miss having excitement and optimism.
  2. One weird thing never discussed with Flock is any hard evidence that Flock cameras actually contribute to solving crimes, and what kind of crimes they help with. You have to assume it is helping at least to some degree... since cops are generally in favor of them.

They've got to have the data... For the public to make an informed decision, the police should be able to say "hey, Flock contributed to solving 100 crimes last year, 99% of which were minor property crimes like theft or vandalism and 1% was violent crime. If you get rid of these, some of these crimes may not be solved as quickly or at all." And then if you get rid of the cameras, people don't have to worry about police abusing the system, the feds getting up in individuals lives, and anyone persecuting specific groups of people.

Their comms guy just basically says "not that many departments are actually cancelling", "i empathize", and "the customers had it set up incorrectly to let the feds in"... What?!

  3. You’re still a consumer, though. A single locust doesn’t wipe out thousands of acres on its own — it’s the swarm of individuals all buying (eating) “only what they need”.
  4. I found it weird they say that microsoft is in Silicon Valley.
  5. Same. Also have a super old iPad Pro, and it still works amazing. I always ponder upgrading, knowing that I’ve gotten so much use and enjoyment out of it, but then get wrapped around the axle about how the CPU is absurdly overpowered for what I do with it (YouTube, podcasts, music, drawing/note taking, reading). It’s my main device at home, too, so I never feel like I need to upgrade my phone - it’s definitely saved me money in that regard, too. :P
  6. I feel dumb - I thought it was a chili pepper, too.
  7. From context, I doubt they are saying that Europe has zero innovation — they’re likely trying to complain about current rules and regulations stifling innovation and progress today. No one thinks Europe has done nothing worthwhile, ever…
  8. Assuming you’re comparing polars/data frames to sql… SQL has literally the worst debugging experience imaginable.
