  1. Great work Dustin and team!
  2. Is this an annoying amount of steps? And do you have to do this on every expiry of your session on the portal?
  3. Many days I worry that HN has lost its humanity and then something with a bit of levity and weird shows up and I am relieved.
  4. Hi Ben! Thank you for making LinkedIn/X bearable!
  5. What films could be categorised in this way?
  6. Similar story but Melbourne.

I just don’t see _as much_ self-directed ambition or obsession? Going to a meetup in Seattle or SF in the early 2010s there were serious obsessives. Masters of domains like Go or JavaScript and someone from Sequoia at the Startup Weekend. Always flocks of folks looking to start their next business. That same bug just never hit here?

This I find weird, surely there are people who can sense opportunities unlockable by tech and Australia is not at all easier or any less expensive than the U.S., I still can’t quite put my finger on it. For me there’s still a magical cultural element to a place like SF, and to an extent – Seattle, when it comes to creating new opportunities.

  7. I love Standard Ebooks! It is such a treasure! Currently enjoying Cup of Gold by John Steinbeck.

Thank you to everyone who helps put this together!

  8. Do you have a write up on how you get this to work with Apple TV? What you have I consider the dream setup.
  9. Oh wow - I met Alan back in 2012 when I was working on a project called WhichBus. How cool!

Thank you for your continued involvement and contributions to OneBusAway!

  10. Would be nice to put through all the terrible plastic-wrapped produce you find at Coles and Woolies.
  11. The answer is to pay for content you enjoy.

The Verge is a great site, it was an easy decision to pay to be a member.

  12. Easily the single best bang for your buck game I have ever played.

I’d still say that at AUD$100

  14. Yeah this isn’t an RTS at all. As someone else said definitely more of a 4X with very minimal realtime troop movement.
  15. She asked for her image to stop being used.
  16. What’s the best way to volunteer?
  17. It’s not a ghost town. I really enjoy it for the quality of discussion.
  18. How does one turn this off?
  19. I’d say most WhatsApp users don’t realize they are backing up to Google Drive in clear text.
  20. Be curious, not judgemental.
  21. I moved for work is the simple answer. Came to find pretty quickly life in Melb is pretty great, possibly one of the greatest places to live.
  22. American in Australia - the house quality, even if the building is new(er), is absolutely shocking. I'm contributing to climate change with all the heat/cool bleed from my rental. Where I never even thought about the electricity bill from where I am in the U.S., I'm spending anywhere from $60 to $250 a month depending on season, where the anecdata average is actually 2x or 3x that.

Thankfully two or three years ago, we signed up for amber.com.au which will give you real time pricing and alerts so we can be thoughtful about usage in peak demand.

I've been tracking usage via their API for ~two years

  23. I’ve never seen one being deployed. Nor have I ever seen anyone use one.

Telstra makes use of existing ones as wifi APS for their subscribers.

This is all fear mongering imo

  24. Huge thank you to the helix team and contributors.

Running `hx` for the first time is one of those experiences where you go simply go, "woah". I've since never looked back and it's slowly defeating how often I open up even larger things in VS Code.

The thing that always held me back from learning `[n]vim` was the huge amount of configuration variability between all the variants and the lack of instruction on just doing something out of default. Neovim is basically the best experience out of the box but even sometimes there you want to have extra functionality. It's really hard to beat the amazing defaults in `hx` and even better `hx -g fetch||build`.

The one thing I'm still missing is ease of running singular test cases or test groups in larger codebases. This still feels hard on Helix.

  25. I'm looking for a comprehensive air quality measurement gadget for different rooms in my home.

What devices are people using that aren't a _complete_ sham?

  26. I found this painting to be shockingly moving.

It’s something you must see in person. Reading the history behind it and standing before this massive tableau is something I’ll never forget.

  27. How do I learn about what’s being discussed here? Why do I need a linker?
  28. Ruby I have found to be incredibly difficult in this regard as well.
