    The memory savings from 32 bit or even 16 bit floats are definitely not pointless! Not to mention doubling simd throughput. Speaking of which, without simd support this certainly can't be used in a lot of applications. Definitely makes sense for financial calculations though.

    Sadly most Fortran I come across has not evolved with the language

    Writing C like Fortran (no heap) is even better when you can!

    yes, the worksheets especially are tedious when they could be automatically calculate with relatively little effort in most cases.

    what C++ libraries take weeks to install? It's true that C++ compile times are atrocious but even that is over the top :).

    It depends how far down the rabbit hole you go.

    Something like JCON (originally from mongodb, see https://blogs.gnome.org/chergert/2016/10/21/jcon/) is actually pretty nice IMO.

    I wonder why healpix never made a footing outside of cosmology. I suppose nobody likes spherical harmonics as much as physicists.

    If a company chose brainfuck as a main programming language, it's doubtful they'd come back from that choice.

    The C preprocessor allows you to define a limited DSL on top of C. This is... sometimes a good thing, and often convenient, even if it makes it hard to understand.

    More likely 8.333% I would think (1/12). The same probability of a broken clock yielding the correct hour.
