- Along with Nim's fantastic movie on Netflix, Id recommend this youtube video for a sense of what its like to climb K2: https://youtu.be/l-dMVvvIt8M One of my favorites after watching ALOT of this stuff during Covid at home time, shows the beauty, the danger, and the actual climbing really well. And all the while watching these, remember to ask yourself "who put those ropes there and how?"

- I have thought a bit about this myself (although others here seem to know a lot more) so Ill give my 2 cents: - it already works w/o P2P, Youtube has worked pretty well for 15+ years as client-server. If you have Google scale, it wouldn't make sense not to use it - Installing software is a harder onboarding than opening a website (I think you'd need more than a browser for this?) - security implications of P2P? - the biggest one for me: Ignoring internet technology concerns, its an extremely hard distributed systems problem with Byzantine concerns, nodes coming and going at any time, where to store unpopular videos?
I hadn't even thought about the telemetry concerns (how do you sell ads efficiently?).
- What about Youtube? Im surprised to not see them mentioned in any of the comments under yours. For all their faults, I regularly am recommended amazing(ly interesting to me) videos.

Its been a very long time since reading or watching something has made my blood boil like it is right now.

Whether or not you agree with the high goals of the (US?) military; for a great many people it is a solid career, a role model they never had, and possibly a stepping stone out of an awful life. Also a very small percentage of these are actually fighting in infantry risking their lives.
This is much different than saying "Ooh youre 18 now, look how much money these 3 people make selling their naked videos! And there is absolutely no consequence at all to this, for you or your society!"

- That would be extremely cool for many niche interests and hobbies.
I think it would be a lot of work for book store owners however because along with taking pictures they would also need to fill in some metadata as well about the book to make any kind of searching/categorizing possible. Maybe an intrepid entrepreneur could start with a few bookstores and do that categorization for them as a "do things that don't scale" experiment.

Did you move the "specialty community chats" over from another site like Reddit? Do you talk with people you know IRL on it? Mainly just wondering how you built out a social network for yourself on Telegram.

- I agree with your assessment, I think the author kind of "took the low road" when there is more than enough content for a convincing article wrapped up in this part:

- I am certainly on the Apple side of this spat but Stratechery wrote a rather compelling pro-Facebook article about this: https://stratechery.com/2020/privacy-labels-and-lookalike-au...
The gist of the argument being that, regardless of what you think about Facebook, hyper-targeted "lookalike audience" models to target ads against actually do level the playing field for small businesses who do not the resources to produce large scale ad campaigns. Highly recommended reading.
- Google is in a much less exposed position because they are the default search engine on iOS devices (a privilege they pay alot of $ for).
- I have had manageable but painful wrist pain in both wrists for about 2 years, and I worry about the long term because Im only 26 now. I had never thought of this as an avenue to explore even though Ive had good results in the past from pt for a weightlifting injury. Thanks!!

Ive been around this discussion a lot and everyone seems to want to blame the whole phenomenon on some chemical or another, "xenoestrogens" are thrown around a lot. Yes, there are more unnatural chemical compounds entering our bodies than in the past (also important to examine) but addressing the terribly unhealthy lives most of us lead is obviously the first step.
