  1. Wow didn't know about that, thanks.
  2. I just started DJing and something I quickly noticed is how garbage Spotify's music sounds compared to FLACs I've purchased. The max bitrate is very low.
  3. The frontend decrypts the email content so they could just change the code at any point at siphon off the plaintext. Also, I don’t think people understand that PM is not fully encrypted. For example, email subjects are stored in plaintext and sent by the backend.
  4. Games now don’t even look good enough to justify the enormous computing power they require. They’re a stuttery and blurry mess, augmented by fake AI frames, LOD popping, weird screen space rendering defects, and so on. Graphics peaked 10 years ago.
  5. I have tried it but wasn't a fan. I tried to convert one of our Actions workflows and that proved to be a PITA that I gave up on. It seems now the project is pivoting into AI stuff.
  6. Docker is a company I just can’t hate on. They’ve completely transformed how software is deployed. Containers gained so much momentum it kind of outgrew them and they lost a lot of potential business. I would hardly call beginning to charge after a decade of free service a rug pull, especially now that dependence on Docker’s registry is shrinking all the time.
  7. I wonder if players like Depot could sidestep GHA by using webhooks instead of acting as a custom runner, in other words build their own compatible control plane. I guess it would probably break a lot of workflows.

What I'd really like to see is some new CI/CD systems though. Actions is garbage in multiple dimensions. Can't somebody do something clever and save us from this flaky insecure YAML hell?

  8. I think Navalny was counting on the Russian people to respond strongly. Unfortunately after his death, everything carried on as normal. Western governments continue to be a soft touch and buy oil from Russia. I'm not sure he would still give his life after seeing how the world failed him.
  9. Alexei Navalny’s death, leaving behind his wife and two children, showed the harsh reality that martyrdom isn't always worth it. Sacrifice is not always rewarded. Sometimes the tyrants win. Unless you believe in karma or divine retribution.
  10. Given that I have hundreds of SoundCloud DJ sets bookmarked that contain commercially released music that’s obviously not true.
  11. I tried creating a SoundCloud account recently for uploading DJ sets to and it just outright wouldn't let me. Didn't matter whether I was or wasn't on a VPN, or whether I had clean cookies. Crappy bot detection. You can be sure I'm never paying for such a hostile service.
  12. Not sure why you've been downvoted. Somebody protecting their business?
  13. Apple is perfectly happy to take money from criminals though. My grandmother bought some Apple gift cards from a supermarket which turned out to be fake. The cards on display had been replaced/modified in a way that upon purchasing them it activated another card held by the criminals. Apple refused to take responsibility and so did the supermarket. Gift cards are loved by scammers as a way to receive and launder money, they should be subject to much more scrutiny and have stronger AML mechanisms.
  14. I found out when Actions started failing again for the Nth time this month.

The internal conversation about moving away from Actions or possibly GitHub has been triggered. I didn't like Zig's post about leaving GitHub because it felt immature, but they weren't wrong. It's decaying.

  15. Anything like this for Claude Code/calls to OpenRouter?
  16. Why on earth is a connector standard secret?
  17. I've also found many Actions that do other dodgy stuff, like pulling and executing unpinned scripts from external websites, or installing unpinned binaries from GitHub releases. Pinning an Action isn't enough, you have to audit it.
  18. Interested to know if you found these issues yourself or from a source. Is Kafka any more robust?
  19. I was secretly hoping for a 'proper' earthquake when I was living in Japan. Obviously I didn't want anybody to get hurt or anything to get damaged, but I only ever got to feel a few ~M3 earthquakes which were just slight bumps I felt when laying in bed.
  20. People were freaking about the July megaquake prophecy and nothing happened. Trying to time it is silly, just chill and enjoy your stay, you'll probably be fine.
