  1. Failwind? Alewind? Nailwind? Galewind?

I’m struggling to figure out which letter in FAANG represents Tailwind. Not sure why they need to be paying FAANG salaries.

  2. Hilarious how this is coming from someone that just assumed a 20 year old belief of a person they don’t know
  3. Correct. And if steam ever retracts anything, I’ll pirate the game then with a clean conscience.
  4. Is that the issue people have with Java?
  5. Not really. It more seems that you’re trying to make it personal.
  6. Author seems very angry that people are solving a problem in a different what than he’d prefer
  7. How is the Tesla relationship with CarPlay different than the Toyota one? You didn’t make that clear at all.
  8. > for very good reason.

The reasons are subscription revenue and user data. Not sure which of those you consider very good.

  9. > typing blind on a keyboard I am not used to is anyway a hopeless endeavor.

Sounds like you’re a special case then. Most people can type fine on any qwerty keyboard. And your willingness to turn a blind eye to pretty major annoyances makes it seem like you’re trying to justify the effort you’ve put into Colemak. Even if you aren’t doing that, you’ll get more mileage out of just admitting that it’s annoying to have to use another keyboard.

  10. That is the standard way to advertise your price in the App Store. What is more transparent than.. clearly posting your price?
  11. I haven’t used a case in years. The whole premise of your comment is wrong. Cases aren’t required at all. Phones are hella durable.
  12. What is preventing you from competing with Slack and doing “good things at scale”?

The problem is that you want other people to fund your goodness.

  13. I’m not entirely sure what you’re getting at, but if you’re referring to weight, diet is significantly more important than lifestyle.

In other words, it’s way easier to out diet a bad lifestyle than out lifestyle a bad diet, if your goal is to not be overweight. Obviously that doesn’t apply to all health metrics.

  14. This is my biggest complaint with the strict "my device, my rules" people.

I want Apple to lock down my device to customization, repairs, etc..

I know I am never going to install an app through means other than the app store, even if I could. I know I'm never going to repair my device through anyone other than Apple, even if I could. I want to know that my device will be a $1,000 paperweight to anyone who steals it.

I want to pay Apple to ensure there are no "driveway repairs".

A number of years ago I accidentally ended up with a second hand iPhone with a shitty "fake" screen repair. I had no way of knowing it wasn't an Apple screen. But it fucked me over as soon as it started failing a couple months after I bought it.

I get tired of the people demanding that a company, with willing, paying customers, isn't allowed to protect their customers because they want something the company doesn't offer. Fuck right off with that shit and buy from a company that does offer that.

  15. Have you tried Todewave? By far the best DX I’ve seen
  16. Do you frequent elixirforum.com? That’s where the elixir community resides. Jose and Chris post frequently there. As well as maintainers of popular libraries.
  17. Another reason was asymmetric friendships. Meaning Alice could add Bob to a circle without Bob adding Alice back. Made it so much harder for the network effect to kick in.
  18. I wish Google didn’t give up up everything they try. Google plus was cool.
  19. I'm not entirely sure I understand exactly what you're suggesting. But I'd imagine it's because a company that doesn't have to pay people will out compete the company that does.

There could be some scenario where it is advantageous to have humans working with AI. But if that isn't how reality plays out then companies won't be able to afford to pay people.

  20. When you put distracting things on your homepage, don't be surprised when they're distracting
  21. Some say hand wavy where others say dishonest. You’re justifying their dishonesty because telling the truth would cost them customers.

    Gross.

  22. > Beneficial to both parties

Ah yes, because who doesn’t want more emails from a sites they’ve visited one time

  23. Have you learned the language? Expecting to know what’s going on without having learned the syntax is a bit silly
  24. No, because playwright can be detected pretty easily and blocked. It needs to be (and will be) using the same browser that you regularly browse with.
  25. He’s not a government employee. You said it yourself lol
  26. > if it was better it would have survived.

Not sure how you can claim this when:

    1. It is still very much alive, and

    2. The whole point GP is making is that what made it better got stripped from it because of the acquisition announcement
