  1. > Perhaps because disrupting things was the actual goal

It surprises me if anyone thought anything different. I mean, how could you think anything else if yo know what group of cronies there people are?

It's like Americans forgot all about what was wrong with the Rockefeller-era oligarchy. Even the MAGA slogan is just a copy from back then.

  2. There is no way to sideload apks?
  3. Great, not only do we have to carry an extra fob, we have to each carry one that individually tracks us.
  4. > They 'trust me'. Dumb fucks"
  5. Mantle predates either, and Vulkan is based on Mantle.
  6. From the fire into the frying pan.
  7. Nature just hasn't switched to Rust (and Arch) yet. Maybe it'll also get rid of those pesky black holes.
  8. They put them up with and without the EU funding info, right? Here most is not EU funded, but there are still signs, because how else do you know what is going on? Or are big construction projects completely unsigned where you live?
  9. Is there any design? It's just the flag and a title + subtitle.

Also, the EU is the most efficient government in terms of overhead, and having seen some of it up close not wasting time or money on "unifying design languages" for every single funding billboard is very much EU style. Just copy-paste by some local authority in Powerpoint in most cases, I bet.

  10. That would make for a great spinoff: farm the infected for food!
  11. Plus, chucking the contents of a few biotanks in case of infection is a hell of a lot better than having to kill and waste millions of birds.

I mean, industrial slaughter isn't a pretty process, even in better plants, which most aren't, but where they come to wipe out the barn, they're not putting animal welfare first.

  12. What is AdobeWebM and why is it taking more than adding the lib to their CMake?
  13. Some Sony TV's only hardware accelerate AV1 content through streaming services, and not through Blueray and USB...

Right now, I have a drive filled with H264 content that I can hook up to any old hotel TV and play back. It's gonna be a while before I switch to AV1. And is H264 by now largely out of patent anyway?

  14. The difference between what some call the upper-upper-class and upper-middle-class is bigger than the difference between middle-class and lower-class.

Or, the 1% and the 0.01%.

The superrich are perhaps more alien than most aliens would be to us. (I'm assuming you are not a billionaire).

  15. I wish somebody would make minidiscs and minidisc players. Can (optionally) replace atrac with opus. Fast transfers but 'slow playback' and more durability than cassette or CD.
  16. > AV1 is not new anymore

Uh what. (Embedded) hardware lasts a long time (and it should!). TV's around the globe are not all built after 2018. H264 is still the gold standard if you want to be sure a random device has hardware acceleration.

I make use of this by taking a USB hard drive with me on trips. Random TV's rarely have issue with my H264 catalogue. It'll be a while before I look at AV1 for this. Sure, I wish I could benefit faster, but I don't want people to throw out perfectly good hardware either!

  17. I always bring a USB drive. All TVs play from USB.
  18. Car ownership correlates negatively with urbanization in NL, so no, I don't think so. And no 40M city (or 4M city) convinces me driving is an acceptable way to get around.
  19. There are many things that will become collectibles. I don't want to spend the energy and time storing various items on the chance they might become valuable.
