  1. Really depends on the size of the school districts. There are districts with more than a 100,000 students and there are those with barely 100.

This is like saying "there are only 147 cities and towns who voted for X while 15,000 towns didn't, therefore X is very unpopular" without taking into account how many voters live in those cities/towns.

  2. Until Samsung builds a fridge that won't cool if it goes more than some period of time (a week?) without pinging their servers. They'd probably get away with it given the friction of getting a large appliance out of your home and back to the store. Bonus evil points for making this feature active only after the return/warranty period expires.
  3. I recently ran into a situation where a service I absolutely must use and has no alternative (think government provided service) would only accept a Gmail domain for registration. Any other domain would fail registration with no useful error message.

This really shouldn't be allowed in this day and age but I'm effectively powerless to change it. DeGoogling is hard.

  4. Granting this premise is true (I have no idea), that makes it even worse. They would deliberately be hoarding 40% of the global supply not to lock in for future growth but simply to make sure no one else gets to have it. It’s figuratively setting chips on fire.
  5. My Title 1 school made the ACT available to all students for free (on one specific date). A lot of kids who were unprepared for the ACT took it because, why not?
  6. And if I am at home, the box is upstairs. I can connect a keyboard and monitor and continue about my business.
  7. I let them know I think they are number one. Choice of digit varies on my mood.
  8. Does Canada not have chargebacks? This seems like a clear case for one.
  9. Depends on where you live. Around me the conservatives are more than willing to offer their political opinions even when the context doesn't fit. Progressive/Liberal folks tend to be less vocal because we already know where we stand with each other and don't want to invite the loudmouth to go off.
  10. Political conservatives run a huge American flag off the back of their pickup. Same motivations. Different venue.
  11. I keep my travel laptop clean of any outward expression. Saves a lot of potential grief crossing borders or cultures.

My at home and around town laptop can be my canvas.

  12. You've never seen anyone get outwardly offended but I'm sure there have been a few. It's just a statistical probability. I fully support the cause and would not be offended but I encounter people everyday who most certainly are.

Just tell those people you're a big fan of Noah and the Old Testament. Then ask them about why they are wearing a cotton blend shirt.

  13. 2025 Web of Shit papering over a 1950s era backend.
  14. I understand not wanting to deal with open seating but continuing to boycott an airline after they fixed your pet-peeve makes no sense to me.
  15. The core benefit to me of FLAC is that it's lossless. I can convert the same file to an MP3 for the car and OPUS on my phone and don't have to worry about (compounding) losses in quality.

I stream FLAC at home because I already have it there but I can't say it's "better" than 320 MP3s.

I did a re-rip project during Covid because so many of my rips were 128 bit MP3 from back when storage costs drove all CD ripping decisions.

    Edit:typos

  16. You’ve never made s’mores while doing a #2?
  17. Good point. I haven’t tripped a GFCI in a long while but I don’t actually know if my fridge will lose power when I do trip the GFCI. My guess is that it will since it does have a water line and ice dispenser so probably requires being wired into the same circuit.
  18. I keep my Bosch set to Auto and Extra Dry and use Kirkland pods. Rarely do I have anything that comes out less than perfect.

The Extra Dry setting seems to help with getting the glass and ceramics dryer. Plastics still come out quite wet since it uses a hotter final rinse rather than a heating element to get dishes “dryer”.

  19. Yeah, I have very soft water. I tried using a liquid rinse aid when I switched from a name brand pod with a rinse aid to the cheap Kirkland pods. The rinse aid made things worse and I did end up with a residue on my glassware.

It’s cheap enough to try it and see if it helps but don’t feel obligated to use it if it doesn’t.

  20. I think one of his earlier videos suggested doing what I have always done. Load the dishwasher then do the hand washing. This ensures you have hot water ready to go since you’ve already been actively using it. When hand washing is done, run the dishwasher.
