  1. I think the parent comment is referring to RuPay à la visa/mastercard not Vipps which I say is equivalent of UPI. Although UPI is open unlike Vipps.
  2. In my old company new joiners are assigned an monotonic number as id in tech. GitHub profile url reflected that.

Someone may or may not have used the pattern to get to know the attrition rate through running a simple script every month))

  3. TFR of my town of million people with $3k percapita income is 1.5
  4. Screaming at Disk drives has been my go-to party trick to break ice the last decade.
  5. This is actually pretty nice and amazing that they publish video format incident retrospectives.
  6. I pay 30$ a year for 2/3 GB per day and unlimited calls. This is more than enough for me.

For broadband I pay 10$ a month for 100 Mbps.

Mobile is terrible at times, Broadband service is amazing, even though it is slow.

    Broadband is not that common

  7. One of my previous orgs used incrementing number for Github profiles. While there was no privacy concern about accessing a Github profile of another user, i don't think the org expected someone to calculate tech attrition and layoff count using this URL pattern ;)
  8. Does you team hire? Haha. But yeah, In my current team EM also drops the ball for his own growth or agenda. Not sure how one can handle that.
  9. Apparently https://www.grepular.com/ is from UK. Wonder how feels if people start blaming him for colonialism.

Govt proscribing access by law is something, but I cannot imagine a guy going out of the way to put ipblocks.

  10. There was a post about Garage opener I read here sometime back. https://www.hackerneue.com/item?id=16964907
  11. I don't think it is simple to eat a different rice under normal circumstances once you are used to it. In my case even something which is staple variety 200 km away
  12. I wouldn't trust anything from western media. It is just manufactured consent to bomb a country on the other side of the world.
  13. I realize I procrastinate less when using LLM to write code which I know I could write.
  14. Would be sitting in customs for bribe clearance in here.
  15. We have a system where each pod spins up around 30 scheduled job instances of one job each processing a "partition", then transaction outbox is queried with hash of identifier equating it to partition.

We increased partition counts on sale days and it works well for us.

Couple of gotchas we had were.

    1) Using hashtext from postgres is sketchy.

    2) Increasing partiton count is an orchestra which requires stopping the partition.

  16. There is no guarantee that ceding land would result in peace.
  17. Please take as many photographs as possible. I never took any pictures while traveling. Partly as I am not photogenic, that inferiority complex stayed with me.

Now for the pictures I took, Me and my daughter spent 2 hours ruminating at those pictures this weekend. Nothing can beat that happiness

  18. They sell machine tools. The cordless one I have is VFM. https://www.karuvitech.com/products/copy-of-cordless-drill-k...
  19. Could you please link any blog post which goes into what you are talking about, I feel I am also at the high barrier to enter situation about this stuff
  20. Quite a change in mood of comments compared to when it was posted last time. https://www.hackerneue.com/item?id=11210578
  21. I don't live in Europe. I still believe GDPR is god send. I just send a chat-gpt generated e-mail to the company to forget me citing GDPR and voila it just works.

just have to lie as bit that i am a resident of EU though.

  22. I did not except the biker gang bandidos in Denmark is led by one Abrar raja. I don't know, as an Indian it just feels weird to hear a Pakistani name in that setting.
  23. > Are they, when people opposing one candidate are jailed?

Actually a great filter to know who knows what they are talking about.

  24. Did the rules matter when hundreds of thousands of iraqi s were killed on lies?
  25. The secondary school the founder went to is a dead giveaway. Ofcourse yc would fund them. Anyone would fund them infact.
  26. Yes, something along the lines could work. But I am not sure if the above query itself would work if rows are appended to the table in parallel.

Also if events for a partition gets processed quick would the last partition get an equal chance?

  27. How could I solve the problem of in-order processing based on a key using skip locked? Basically all records having the key to be processed one after other.
  28. We use postgres jsonb and have search built 30 million/~100-500 kb records. Only GIN/GIST indexes are possible, if we want to anything special(Search/send events if that is edited) at a deeper node of jsonb, the team prefers to extract it out of jsonb into a new column, which creates it own set of problems.

Probably if someone looking to use jsonb to replace NoSQL DB would need to look deeper.
