- Yes, the client wanted the server to deliver content it had intended for a different client, regardless of what the service operator wanted, so it lied using its user agent. Exact same thing we are talking about. The difference is that people don't want companies to profit off of their content. That's fair. In this case, they should maybe consider some form of real authentication, or if the bot is abusive, some kind of rate limiting control.
- I think you're partially right. The development of good accessibility features require what any other feature would require- time. Since there aren't enough skilled people willing to give their time to make a good dent in the issue, the only solution left is to pay people for their efforts, sadly.
- > The security through obscurity (non-standard port, no root) are both kinda silly but why not
I think these are decent controls when layered with others. The effectiveness differs depending on your threat models, of course, but at the very least it helps reduce the noise seen from most automated scans reducing the effort involved in monitoring your assets.
- Makes me think of this short story.
- I thought about renting out property for passive income, but after speaking with a friend locally about issues hes had, changed my mind. Not worth the hassle. In the one case, the tenant stopped paying their power bill and the power company cut them off. The tenant proceeded to tear down the inside of the house and burn it for heat. The kitchen island and kitchen cabinet fronts were burned, for instance. In another instance, when cleaning out a property, he found a miscarried fetus left behind in one of the toilets. Both tenants were also evicted for not paying their rent. So yeah, not worth it.
