- I used to invert them but realized two things: 1: anyone can adapt to any control scheme given enough time (which isn't much) 2: majority of games default to, and people play with, non inverted controls. If you don't see yourself playing flight sims constantl y, it's just easier for everyone involved to learn the noninverted controls so that no one has to constantly change control mappings
- For getting the feel of the milky way, I think there's nothing that is better able to simulate it than a video game, ala Elite Dangerous. I loved to navigate its galaxy map. The size of the Milky Way, the numbers of stars and distances between them are of scale in there if I recall correctly.
- In the Culture novels, the characters that stand out most to me were his Minds rather than any of the pan-human non-AI. What's most intriguing to me, something I rarely ever see in science fiction is how utterly "human" and warm his AI creations always were. Just read Look to Windward, Masaq Hub in particular, for the ultimate example.
- I think it's partly bullshit. I would consider myself a night owl but: On one hand, if i never check myself, I will just stay up to the late hours of the night, which I often feel is attributed to how I grew up, and as such it's psychologically ingrained in me.
Otoh, I successfully followed an 11p-6a sleep schedule for months, but I'd never noticed any negative differences in my general day to day energy/etc levels compared to when I would go to bed late. (Maybe better mood bc being up before most ppl is a great feeling?) But really, the biggest difficulty I had with this regimen was to just go to bed on time, and I think this is more to do with habits rather than genetics. But only partly.
- I wonder if mid life crises possible arise in part due to the lack of a legacy we leave behind, whether it's kids, works for future generations, art, etc, and even acts of altruism. Maybe doing selfless things can be just as strong a cure for the things you always wanted to do for yourself that you feel you haven't lived up to yet?
