- antinomicusDid you tell the LLM you were in New York though?
- Who paid you to make this comment? This is so unbelievably out of touch I have a hard time believing it is anything other than Astro turf.
- Do you believe in his ideas? I think the abundist philosophy is a fake moustache and a coat of paint on third way neoliberalism, which has proven time and again to have utterly failed as a political strategy in our current era. Ezra Klein’s ideas mostly feel tired, recycled, boring, outdated, and rudderless. We need true labor reform in this country, not less regulations and more trust in “altruistic developers”.
- On the trackball requirement alone you’re SOL haha. Confusing request, given that pixel 4 doesn’t have one. I think you’d have to go way back to the nexus one for a trackball. I miss those days.
- But adderall and vyvanse aren’t the same drug at all. You cannot directly compare dosages. 50mg of vyvanse is roughly equivalent to 20mg of adderall. As a prodrug, Vyvanse must be processed by the liver for it to function.
- I was with you until the very last line, can you expand on that?
- This has to be a troll. I refuse to believe anyone thinks like this.
- Basically I think “a beer would be nice right now” and then I go to the store or local pub.
- “This is not the 1% I was hoping to eventually join”
Temporarily embarrassed billionaires, all of us. Much easier to believe that than try to find some class consciousness and solidarity, isn’t it?
- The article clearly states it’s class 3.
- Nope. This one out of all the comments in this thread screams out of touch tech guy. 80% of car purchases in America are financed. There are over 100 million car loans in America. Though in a more ideal world car loans should not be necessary, in this one, they very much are.
- I’m honestly thinking he saw all the attention Elon got and wanted some for himself. For real - ten years ago if you asked anyone if they knew who Peter thiel was, maybe 4/10 would be able to tell you. But even among those 4 if you asked do you know what Peter thiel looks like they might all have shrugged. Now, at least to me, it seems like Thiel has decided to do interviews and public appearances like he never did before. And more and more people now know who he is and how crazy he is as a result. Not sure it’s had the effect he’s looking for.
I am so constantly confused by the level of greed and insanity these kinds of people reach. My theory is that once you are so divorced from the material world and what the value of anything is, your brain turns to mush.
- Sure, that, plus the catastrophic cumulative effects of anthropogenic climate disruption, that will render large swaths of the planet uninhabitable, resulting in billions of climate refugees, that we’re likely already locked in / inevitably going to see in the not too distant future.
- I just want to pile on, to any Apple engineers here that might have some say: PLEASE STOP with the Liquid Glass. My god, what an unbelievably stupid ‘feature’. Warren Buffett famously talked about how Apple is so valuable because their moat is so strong. That if you were to pay someone 10,000$ to switch from iPhones - they wouldn’t. No other brand is like this.
I was the same way, couldn’t pay me 10k to switch from my iPhone. For 10 years. Then, liquid ass came along and made me consider ditching Apple more seriously than I ever have. This redesign is apple’s most colossal failure of the last decade and I desperately hope they keep moving in the direction of rolling back these changes. It’s not just that everything is blurry and tinted. They made the buttons across the UI far less space efficient, widening and making cartoonish random elements that worked fine before. They added animations that slow down my iPhone 15 Pro and have tanked its battery life (don’t tell me it’s indexing either it’s been weeks!). They completely broke my “dumb phone” layout for my home screen by adding these incredibly ugly borders to everything.
Every day I curse myself for updating to this slop and for not quickly rolling back while they were still signing the old iOS. It is so unbelievably stupid that they decided to do this.
- Even Amazon’s own services (ie ring) were affected by this outage
- The mixer space is the only one where behringer doesn’t actually just copy other people’s shit and make it cheaper. Their mixers are cheap compared to the competition but they’re super original and have tons of features and UX patterns not found on mixers that cost 5x as much.
- Though the adage “this is the worst it’ll ever be” is parroted daily by AI cultists, the fact is it’s still yet to be proven that currently available LLMs can be made cost effective. For now every ai company is lighting tens of billions of dollars on fire every year and hoping better algorithms, hardware, and user lock in will ensure profits eventually. If this doesn’t happen, they will design more and more “features” in the LLM to monetize it - shopping, ads, sponsored replies, who knows? It may get really awful. And these companies will have so much of our data and eventually the need to make profits will lead them to sell that data and just generally try to extract as much out of us as they can.
This is why in the long run I believe we all should aspire to do LLM inference locally. But unfortunately we just are not anywhere close to par with the SoTA cloud models available. Something like DGX spark would be a decent step in this direction, but this platform appears to mostly be for prototyping / training models meant to eventually be run on data center nvidia hardware.
Personally I think I will probably spec out an M5 max/ultra Mac Studio once that’s a thing, and start trying to do this more seriously. The tools are getting better every day and “this is the worst it’ll ever be” is much more applicable to locally run models.
- Isn’t the whole point to run your model locally?
- There absolutely are soft skills and it is clear that you do not have them.
- Typical “I try to seem like an intellectual but I’m actually a foolish, frightened conservative” post.
Crime is down. You have been manipulated.
