- angry_octet parentMany people don't want to live in America. I know that if you're American that sounds crazy.
- One of the few valid uses for polymarket is hedging against events that are hard to insure for. E.g. it made sense to bet on a Trump win (at least early on when odds were good) if you would lose out from him winning.
- Tibet is clear-cut annexation of a sovereign country. HK / New Territories was only leased, and it wasn't going to be practical to keep it longer. The problem is that Beijing no longer needed HK as a gateway, the US/EU had already embraced going directly to the mainland to do deals by the early 2000s. The HK I knew was already gone by 2014.
- If you're using tailscale it's a true VPN, not a proxy, and it won't have any impact on you. If you're using the Mullvad add-on that's a different situation.
- Agreed, it's pointlessly confusing to call it tripwire.
- There were none. There is a separate sub-site for military consumers. It has its own challenges, but they are not primarily related to security.
- Imagine if Bitcoin had an incentive to spend instead of hodl. For example, if mining new coins also invalidated some existing coins. This could also provide an infinite supply of coins and a steady mining rate.
- Surely this is a First Amendment case? A Senator of the President's party complains, and the Government-funded university leaps to punish the wrong speech, which hasn't been shown in court to contravene any law.
It is really crazy how authoritarian the US has become, and so quickly.
- Except I'm not in Europe.
- I have never seen this from a US website before:
We’re Sorry! This website is unavailable in your location.
Error 451 It appears you are attempting to access this website from a country outside of the United States, therefore access cannot be granted at this time.
- Its the classic problem that code firefighters get all the attention, but they were also soaking the structure down with gasoline before hand.
Meanwhile the people who took the extra effort to tackle particularly painful parallel systems remove some race conditions early in the design process and are seen to achieve nothing.
- The picture your app takes isn't identification, it's excluding the people who can't produce a face image.
- "enforces strong Play Integrity" is just a nicer way to say that they use their market position to stop other ecosystems developing.
- The title is rather misleading. The previous software manager was pushed out in a re-org the promises deeper enshitification of GM software, as they try to make software features a profit center that delivers revenue from customers, rather than just vehicles.
- I look forward to info stealers dumping Passkey apps and leakage via additional device enrollment, and not having clear mechanisms for rolling all your Passkeys.
Device attestation and signing transparency logs are quite necessary for users to have visibility of where/when Passkeys have logged in. Really they should also have key ratcheting so stolen keys become useless.
- I particularly dislike that Teams forces you to use Microsoft Authenticator for Passkeys, instead of a physical FIDO2 or Apple/Google Passkeys.
- They could, it's just an API.
- This is also a problem because the security boundary of passkey security is now the entire cloud of that provider... And every app on every device you're logged in to.
- They can most definitely be copied off the device, and the decryption key is in memory.
- Your post is really using alternative facts.
Trump's deportation numbers, despite being wildly disrespectful of the Courts and lacking legality, are way down from Biden and Obama. Instead he's arresting and harassing citizens and people with legal status based on their ethnicity.
Trump is pushing to deport people fleeing authoritarian dictators and war zones, and stripping resources from counter narcotics and people smuggling operations. People smuggling is actually increasing and communities will no longer co-operate with police, leading to increased gang activity. This suits Trump perfectly.
- Revealing the identity of a CIA officer is not a crime unless you hold/held a clearance or it is part of a 'pattern of activities' designed to reveal such identities. Regular people have freedom of speech.
Such a law protecting ICE would not withstand scrutiny by the courts.
- - All your fellow citizens keep voting for said welfare state/pension system (which is undoubtedly pro-Boomer and has unsustainably low retirement ages and large benefits).
- The lack of energy security is because the Red/Greens convinced everywhere except France (go Framatome!) to give up nuclear. I wonder why resource rich Russia would push such an outcome...
- Europe needs to spend its savings to get nuclear going again, with a massive construction program for nuclear, solar, hydro, batteries. It also needs battery tech re-capitalisation to keep its car industry viable.
- Leaving won't make it better, it is the same or worse in most places you could go.
- The AfD are ultra right and leading figures have openly admitted that they contemplate killing migrants, de-islamification of Europe by expelling all muslims, breaking the EU, etc. They also scatter their speech with fascist dog whistles, and even Nazi slogans from the man in charge, Björn Höcke [1].

- They are not in government just yet. But if they gain control, expect their position to change. That's why it is critical to reverse government positions across the block, or we'll see a new authoritarian wave sweep Europe.
- Lady Ada is not impressed:

One of their key points is that the AI component is completely tied to the Qualcomm stack, the opposite of Open. Essentially the Arduino brand will live on as a marketing layer over Qualcomm hardware, which you will still need an NDA and significant volume to gain access to.
- It sure is going to be painful migrating everything off github as the bit rot slowly seeps in. The eternal frustration of dead links, the constant astroturfing of LLM generated malware pretending to be what you're looking for, hoping to stumble across a fork in a random user's account.
- No deps is great, but what I'm looking for is no bugs, authentication and encryption. I want features turned off by default, configs tight as a drum.
- My favourite lesser known post-Neuromancer works:
George Alec Effinger "When Gravity Fails" (1987) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/When_Gravity_Fails
Walter John Williams "Aristoi" (1992) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aristoi_(novel)
And just pre-Gibson: Michael Berlyn "The Integrated Man" (1980) https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2144056.The_Integrated_M...
Bruce Sterling "The Artificial Kid" (1980) This is not a hacker novel, but eerily presages Instagram/Snapchat and viral stardom, the need for creators to create content, etc. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Artificial_Kid
- It also requires special permission to access the Kremlin archives.
- But why reply with a snippet like that? Just a normal non-sequitur, or a machine regurgitation?
