  1. Sorry if you're playing in to the joke, I can't tell. Streetcars / trams were widely deployed before they were ripped out for the car, driven by lobbyists interested in selling cars. Wondering why no one has bothered with that is starting from a false premise, because people have bothered with that.
  2. You can see the erroneously redacted image here: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c8r38ne1x2mo
  3. We should put self driving cars on tracks so they are always out of the way and have easily predictable behavior. Maybe we can even link the cars together for efficiency or something like that.
  4. What would you say are the innovative ideas that have come out of Zig? I have played around with Zig a decent amount, and to me it seems more like a novel combination of an interesting set of pre-existing ideas.
  5. Very cool :)

    I really like the culture around Zig right now. Ship simple, fast, correct, useful software feels like the general set of goals for people writing software in Zig.

  6. This is what I was getting at. The MIT license has restrictions, so calling it "unrestricted" doesn't make sense.
  7. I'm not fear mongering. I'm just saying

    - IF you don't trust it

    - AND you want to use it

    => run it on a private network

    You don't have to trust it for security to use it. Putting services on secure networks when the public doesn't need access is standard practice.

  8. It may still be sensible if you only expose it to private networks.
  9. In what sense is the MIT license "unrestricted"?
  10. To be fair, most are.
  11. Outside of... having Steam games? What?
  12. > You have the right to concern about privacy, but that's not how it works.

    You had all the right reasoning but came to the wrong conclusion. That is exactly how it works, and people should not use iPhones.

  13. Thanks for the tip. I just logged in to my Spotify account for the first time in years so I can export my data :)
  14. I'm writing this on a Daylight Computer. It's been my primary mobile device (instead of a smartphone) for all of 2025. I cannot recommend it enough.
  15. I'm replying to this comment on a Daylight Computer.
  16. I don't think this is what you really meant, but the way this is worded I strongly disagree. What you wrote implies everyone should be exposed to social media, just in a limited fashion. No exposure is still an option that would probably be ideal for most people.

    I do strongly agree with the cigarette analogy though. I have actually said before that I think we would all be better off if social media use was both legally and socially treated like smoking. (Not to say I think we should be age gating websites because that opens a whole other can of worms, but it would probably be better for societal mental health if we did).

  17.     const odd_or_evenness = comptime blk: {
            var buf: [16]bool = undefined;
            var is_even = false;
            for (&buf) |*b| {
                b.* = is_even;
                is_even = !is_even;
            }
            break :blk buf;
        };

    This looks like a promising strategy.
  18. What do you use VR for? If gaming, what games?
