  1. For those curious, you can find videos of what Palantir Gotham is on YouTube. It might help you be more informed before you post here.
  2. I didn't know you could read random process memory in Linux. Where can I get documentation for things like this? I was learning about cgroups some time ago and got frustrated about the lack of documentation. I had to go read containerd code, which isn't ideal for wanting to just learn.
  3. > ... vibe insulting ...

Modern lingo like this seems so unthoughtful to me. I am not old by any metric, but I feel so separated when I read things like this. I wanted to call it stupid but I suppose it's more pleasing to 15 to 20 year olds?

  4. Can you add this to golangci-lint? I like the convenience of a one stop shop.
  5. This happened to someone I know. He was working on a TN visa, had his green card approved, and was waiting for an interview. He was not allowed to leave the country, but he lost his job, and had to leave the country because of the 60 days grace period of the visa. Because he left, he lost his green card application.

    You both:

    1. Can't leave the country because of immigration laws.

    2. Have to leave the country because of immigration laws.

  6. This seems like a PR stunt to me. Now I am wondering if there was similar news about transistors.
  7. Acoustic Radiometer spins in 130dB sound, clockwise and counter-clockwise depending on sound pattern
  8. Does Kagi have any value in the era of LLMs? My understanding is that it aggregates result from different providers.
  9. The intelligence used for the strikes are not shared with you. Your assumption here is that these strikes are baseless, but you don't know this.
  10. How does the govt pick executives or companies for owning the railways?

I am thinking of the three credit bureaus in the US. These companies suck, and offer 0 innovations, but we are stuck them for the foreseeable long term.

  11. I suppose "doing well" isn't a very good metric. It's based on my feelings and experiences having traveled to 5 wealthy countries and chatting with people there. Even in third world countries, like Brazil, I didn't see people dying of opioid overdoses everywhere downtown.
  12. I suppose it's not possible to know nowadays given LLMs and all.
  13. This reminds me of the movie 300 where an army shows up with potters and other tradesmen, while the army of Sparta were all soldiers.

Opinion: as an expat, I'm not sure who would join the CAF nowadays. Not much to be proud of in my opinion. Without exaggerating, not a single person I grew up with is doing well, and I had to leave Canada to start my family.

  14. The review bots can be bypassed.
  15. Amazon eng did some research and found the number of comments in a code review is proportional to the number of lines changed. Huge CRs get little comments. Small CRs get a lot of comments. At Amazon, it's common to have a 150 to 300 line limit to changes. It depends on the team.

In your case, I'd just reject it and ensure repo merges require your approval.

  16. Any data on the Vision Pro?
  17. Why would a GLP-1 be used to dampen reward over an anti-psychotic?
  18. SpaceX advert on the moon, giant and bright for the world to see every night for the next 50 years.
  19. Google Stadia. I want to try games, but don't want to own a tv, desktop, or windows anything.
  20. Any Meta or X employees want to comment on loneliness? I always felt like social media platforms made people lonelier overall.
  21. I see OpenAI is entering the phase of building peripheral products no one asked for. Another widget here and there. In my experience, when a company stops innovating, this usually happens. Time for OpenAI to spend 30 years being a trillon dollar company and delivering 0 innovations akin to Google.
  22. > Maybe big tech will hire a few hundred every year ...

A few hundred? All of the tech companies I've worked for are > 50% Indians in the US. Especially in big tech. I could be wrong, but my understanding is there there is not enough software developers in the US, hence the temp workers. Is there expectation that the demand will drop?

  23. I think AI will also enable the discovery of psychopaths and narcissists, so the dystopia mentioned is uncertain. When AI will confidently boil down someone to some labels like this, we may get competent leadership for the first time ever.
  24. From experience: big tech has to post jobs to US citizens before it can hire on a visa or sponsor a green card. So the trick is to put an ad in a physical news paper and present that as evidence.
  25. > Sorting through a pile of misinformation, trying to rebuild something true out of a collapsed mess of some truth buried in a mixture of nonsense and misunderstandings is a losing battle.

In short, I'm predicting port 80 and 443 as we know it today will see much less usage because of LLMs. Or that it'll move to more curated one off blogs like it used to be. Stack Overflow died because of LLMs. I'm not certain if other social media is next or not. Anyone want to guess at when HN will be a hot mess of bots and garbage?

  26. Spoilers:

Silksong has arenas with 3 mobs that throw discs plus you. Idk about you, but I can't track 7 things moving at once. This isn't fun. Nor is it challenging, you just have to get lucky. I like Silksong, but the only way some the bosses were made challenging was because of constant adds. Hollow Knight rarely had this.
