  1. Then they should stop making slop with their AI.
  2. Yes and even the package format thing is a hell of its own. Even on Ubuntu you have multiple package formats and sometimes there are even multiple app stores (a Gnome one and an Ubuntu specific if I remember correctly)
  3. Yes, it’s fairly common infection in children. I mean they don’t wash carefully their hands, they put everything in their mouth - it would be a real surprise if they would not catch it.
  4. You don’t even need a digital format for this. When I was a consultant I waited in a room with a flip chart for a negotiation. I flipped through the “old slides” of the flip chart and found one where they did budget planning for the project. This was very good background info for the negotiations.
  5. Based on the latest iOS / MacOS update they don’t want to improve their interfaces anyway.
  6. I thought most professional miner use ASICs anyway. How can this be used for AI?
  7. Weirdly, I need background noice to stay focused - like watching/hearing a movie. The background movie is one I already know by heart and so I‘m not distracted. Voices and music from those movies help me to calm and therefore focus.
  8. Your first point is correct, they are not that old. And while Nokia is still a company, it does not have the market power it once had. And that's what I meant with it might not vanish - Oracle will still be a company. Still, I think age is not really a good metric for success.

Your second point is right on the spot! Its valued. By what? By others, right? Somebody says a company has a value, which might not reflect its worth. As mentioned by some other commenters, Oracle has a lot of competition. Good competition. That's why I wrote it needs to change in order to stay competitive.

  9. There are enough examples which one might mention here: Nokia, MySpace, Yahoo, Kodac, AOL, Blockbuster, toys‘r‘us … all ones big. Yes, oracle might not vanish, but it definitely needs some change.
  10. At least I know that bunq, an European „NeoBank“, applied for an FDIC license in the US and received one. It’s offers a lot of cool features and an API.
  11. I think and hope that they don’t do that. As far as I remember their mantra was „no magic, you can see everything which is happening“. They wanted to be a simple and obvious language.
  12. Its funny how „Games are supposed to be fun“ is also the answer to why there are such sophisticated anti cheat tools needed in the first place. Cheater do lower the fun for other players of course…
  13. I still love the windows phone 7 metro ui. Live tiles, focus on typography, no hamburger menu etc.
  14. One of the best comments I read on HN for a long time. Thank you!
  15. Boy is this an awesome web page. Suddenly I have the urge to create an html page with ifames, blink, marquee and table tags (for layout of course)
  16. Yeah, also the ecosystem, aspire, ef core, Orleans, ML.NET etc..at this point I don't know what's really missing.
  17. Interesting, do you have sources for the cases with the traditional banks?
  18. Came here to write a SG-1 comment, glad I’m not the only one. Such a great series/films..
  19. I think we got to this point because the browser was originally a tool to browse documents and media. Now it’s kind of a software distribution platform with interactivity. And we got there by quick implementations/workarounds.
  20. I like it. I was looking for something like this and I will take a look into it.
  21. Something messengers made easy is photo/video sharing. This might be also a little bit tricky with email.

Also most messages I write would be just the subject line (“on my way home”). Bigger topics I would rather have a call than writing them.

But generally the points made in the post are valid and it’s nice to see that it is working for the author.

  22. Is it? Most of the time I read you have to create a wrapper, like here: https://docs.rust-embedded.org/book/interoperability/c-with-...

Please provide some documentation of how to use c libraries without such interop layer in rust. And while bindgen does most of the work it can be pretty tedious to get running.

  23. Since most system level api provide a C interface and the c interoperability of zig is top notch you don’t require a marshaling/interop layer.
  24. What to write about then? Hobby - yes, your human, humans have hobbies so it’s not noteworthy. Food, travel… yes we know that we need to eat, yes we know we live on a planet with places on it.

Nothing would be noteworthy to post because everything is about obvious if we abstract it to some basic underlying principle.

  25. I find the classic servers provided by blizzard pretty cool. Yes they have some small modifications but I think they still deliver the old feeling very well. What benefits does a private server offer?
  26. I agree with every sentence! I would love to have a native app because the more teams/channels you have, the more resources it’s eating up and it feels pretty slow and laggy. Like a message comes in, you click on the notification and it takes like 15 sec until you can read it.
  27. Maybe they don’t even want to rely on Microsoft Teams internally anymore…
  28. Exactly, also, as long as there is no way of verifying that the source they opened up is the one they are running, it’s still a trust thing.
  29. Isn’t this already a LinkedIn meme „what x taught me about B2B SaaS Sales“?

    Edit: yes, it is https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/heres-what-it-taught-me-about...
