  1. It's the classical playbook. Capture the media, declare the opposition illegal, bye bye democracy.

The public was sold this Nazi story about the AfD by the established powers to keep them down. Looking at what has been going on it's wild to me to call the AfD authoritarian compared the the Altparteien...

  2. Parakeet v3 supports many more languages. Works great with MacWhisper.
  3. From my experience with "specialists", internal peace of mind is not what you will get from most mental health "professionals".
  4. Paid users only would probably push it in the right direction. It is unfortunate that the internet has moved into everything is advertising as a business model. I get the appeal but cognitively paying so I can keep my attention seems like a way better model.
  5. My assumption had always been Tony Robbins is a maniac snake oil salesman. Turns out I might be way off. The podcast with Theo Von is worth a watch and the Standford paper is surprising to me. What's your experience?
  6. If you just want it to work you can use ESPHome which means you barely have to code at all. There are software modules for a lot of the standard hardware components. It's arduino plug and play.

I've built a device that times my espresso machine and controls the grinder. I build a 4x wifi socket just because it was fun. Getting high quality temperature and humidity values or co2 is unbelievably easy, cheap and fun.

Coupled with Homeassistant you can spend a lot of time and have a lot of fun. I did at least.

  7. We're talking about it so what Elon is doing is working. Amazing to see all the hate.
  8. Have you looked into CPTSD? Some people are able to hold it together for a long time but eventually the mind starts to fray and focussing becomes almost impossible because the chaos catches up with you... or me in that case.
  9. I think genetics are completely misunderstood. I also have serious Narcissism in my family and to me it very much looks like that's the world view you learn if that's how it's demonstrated to you as a small child. Small children have no filter on inputs also. If dad isn't around because mother is unbearable and she lives a narcissistic reality it becomes the water that you swim in. I don't think there is genetic code that determines that you think other people are to blame for everything!

Random theory: Children of narcissists like IT because it's a world that is very predictable with rational explanations.

  10. There is an export option for HipChat so if you could write an importer for that the migration would probably be straight forward. We also have customers who insist on having control over their data so we are looking into mattermost as well.

The signup process is great. On the donations page I think the $ amount should be displayed in the same box as the number of coffees or allow people to enter a usd amount as well or number of coffees. Now it's only visible on the button which I didn't see immediately.

    Cheers!

  12. Regarding #1... I'm pretty sure that to digest 100kcal worth of chicken breast requires more energy for the body to do, compared to digesting 100kcal worth of Coke/sugar. It also has a different impact on your insulin levels.

Living on a 3000kcal McDonalds diet will give you a different body shape compared to living on a 3000kcal diet of home cooked, organic meals.

    No?

  13. Would you want to hire somebody who has worked at a company like that? I know a lot of people won't care but still.
  14. You can build aerobic power (at least to some extent) using anaerobic exercise like sprints / intervals. I would assume a combination of aerobic & anaerobic exercise is probably the healthiest because that way all energy pathways and muscle fibres get activated.

I always think it's crazy to expect humans to function properly without exercise. We see the problems in all other animals when they become sedentary below the level that they would historically be expected to do. Yet somehow some people seem to think we are an exception to this rule.

  15. There is probably a correlation between overall health -> leg strength & overall health => brain health / power. Not as revolutionary as I would like it to be.
  16. Really sad. It's also depressing to see the response from politics. Border controls and more police presence. How likely is that to solve the underlying problems?
  17. That's awesome! I didn't think this would work but it does. It would be amazing to combine this with a training tracking app. So far the data entry has always been really annoying so only machine exercises could really be captured properly. Really exciting stuff. I think this has a lot of potential for a startup!
  18. I really like the format and styling! It's broken up nicely with the images you added and the commands are kept to the really important ones. The summaries at the end of each chapter is great as takeaway. Maybe you could create a cheat sheet of the combination of summaries?

I'm looking forward to the Git edition of this series.

  19. I rowed just below international level and several of my former team mates have world and olympic medals. Also, I know that my pure power output was better than some of the international rowers and I didn't even take Creatine. My house mate is in a national team squad right now and he gets surprise tested every few months. He actually has to keep a calendar of where he sleeps every single night so they can find you in the morning... I doubt there is much cheating going on in rowing, like you said, it's just not worth it financially.
  20. Wow! I've competed in rowing at fairly high level and reading this is article is shocking. I did not expect such a huge performance boost and THEN to turn up clean is insane.

So far I've always given people the benefit of the doubt but this really makes me wonder...

  21. I would really advise agains even trying, unless you are simply bored. I created a system with exact parts recommended by tonymacx86 and it took days to get everything up and running. Even then basic stuff kept braking like sound. Speed stepping didn't work at all so I abandoned that ship...
  22. I like the "stop dieting" and graph about what causes vs protects against cancer. The "don't get healthcare" is ridiculous though. But then again, especially in the US unnecessary back surgeries for example are insanely common...
  23. It's the first thought that popped into my head...

I don't exactly see how your comment helps any more than mine but that's fine.

  24. Yet every single one of the bankers who brought the world economy to the brink of collapse walks free, enjoying the fruits of his labour. The system works.
  25. I didn't even notice this. It works great and makes me a very happy camper :)
  26. Don't beat yourself up. Making those mistakes is how you learn. Making this mistake on the first job is surely a forgiveable offence.
  27. Try to get transferred to the job you applied for. I would be completely honest with the situation and see how they react. Can you get hold of the guy who gave the lecture?

If it doesn't work out I doubt that IT is a field in general where finding a job is that difficult.

  28. So you open every single link? I read the headlines, open the ones I want to read and then pressing the "mark all as read" was a total blessing because next time I open the page I only look at the "non grey" links.

I guess I could just open all the links but it doesn't seem ideal.
