  1. It's not just that science contradicts orthodox religious views. It's also that humanities education and exposure to a diversity of people and thought can "deprogram" students away from traditional ways of thinking, which is a threat to traditional power hierarchies.
  2. The funding problem is a cultural problem though. Religious right wing politicians in the US have attacked science and education funding at every opportunity. Science and education produce ideas that are at odds with right wing religious orthodoxy, so those things must not be allowed in society.
  3. When the US criticizes Europe for free speech and political suppression, you can be sure they're complaining because the criminalization of literal Naziism harms Trump's allies.
  4. There was an article posted recently announcing that Flock reached an agreement with Amazon to ingest Ring cameras into their system.
  5. Have you not noticed management cracking the whip in this environment? 2 hours shopping could be 2 hours shipping code! Everyone has uniform maximum productivity every minute and anything short of 100% focus on work is time theft!
  6. The Nazis in Azov have largely been killed and replaced with new troops. The Nazis in America are running rampant snatching civilians off the streets. Critical difference.
  7. Depends on locale. In Chicago, or now Charlotte, brownshirt encounters are highly elevated.
  8. I'm basically the opposite of you (leftist, opposed to gun control as it's been implemented in our country). I am frustrated by model and feature bans and magazine capacity bans. I am frustrated by the new push to ban self-manufactured firearms, something that has always been legal in the US but now that 3d printing has made it more attainable it's a target for bans.

It would be one thing if these laws were studied and shown to reduce gun crime. But I'm not seeing data, I'm seeing "guns are bad" vibes from Democrats while there are armed Nazi goon squads kidnapping people off the streets.

  9. I accuse you of being a narcoterrorist. Hellfire incoming. Goodbye.
  10. Giving the minority (Christian extremists in flyover states) too much power has caused them to start revoking the rights of everyone not them. Forget about protecting minority groups from having too little power, the main concern now is wresting control of our government in line with the principle of "one person, one vote" instead of "hectares of corn and churches take precedence over people".
  11. This wasn't about ending that system, it was about preserving that system and further entrenching it at a more substantial cost to the end users of healthcare, who tend to be some of those least able to afford it.
  12. Not acknowledging the Roman Empire when it was seated in Constantinople is kind of peak Western chauvinism though.
  13. Thanks I'm not the original commenter though I was just providing my own color to the situation in that I personally don't care why someone is running, it's a reasonable reaction imo.
  14. Nothing he said was false though, the Republicans were trying to paint the shooter as anyone other than one of their own. It might be that he's actually a leftist, but Kimmel described Republican behavior and did not actually make any assertions of fact regarding the alleged shooter.
  15. Except non-NewsCorp Fox assets were bought by none other than Disney! It's a gordian knot of monopolistic corruption!
  16. My first instinct is to run from the cops no matter what just because I've been assaulted by them enough for one lifetime. One doesn't have to be breaking any law to end up targeted by some crazy cop, American police are like rabid animals.
  17. 50 miles is a US government defined "commutable distance" (I was just talking about this at work with a human resources person, but unfortunately I can't recall what agency defined it as such).
  18. The content is there, why should I deny myself access to information if I find the entity gatekeeping it abhorrent? Should I also deny myself access to NIH data because of my feelings toward the US government?
  19. Fair enough, but goofy they are.
  20. The intermediate cartridge doctrine is evolving as a result of improvements in armor. M855A1 5.56 cartridges fired out of a long (20") barrel may have success against modern armor, but slightly larger intermediate cartridges (6 and 6.5mm) are being adopted for supposedly superior performance. That doesn't excuse the weird 6.8 fury cartridge Sig designed around though.
