- I'd suggest Badlands (1973) and The New World (2005 (172 minutes version)) as the other two.
Badlands is his first movie and is very approachable.
The New World is also very approachable but can be long for some people. Personally, it's one of my all time favorite movies.and worth every minute.
- > ...Microsoft's implementation of AI feels like "don't worry, we will do the thinking for you"
I feel like that describes nearly all of the "productivity" tools I see in AI ads. Sadly enough, it also aligns with how most people use it, in my personal experience. Just a total off-boarding of needing to think.
- That reminds me of House of Bamboo, which kind of had the opposite problem[0]:
[0] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_Bamboo#CastingFor many years after its initial release, the film was seen only on television in pan-and-scan prints, leading people to believe that DeForest Kelley has a small role near the end of the film. When Fox finally struck a new 35mm CinemaScope print for a film festival in the 1990s, viewers were surprised to see that Kelley is in the film all the way through; he was just always off to one side and thus had been panned out of the frame. - I completely forgot about that.
I was thinking of the exploit back from 2023 that effected Acura, Genesis, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Infiniti, Nissan, and Porsche. I remember it being discussed on HN at the time but I can't find the relevant thread. Here is an article covering it: https://www.securityweek.com/16-car-makers-and-their-vehicle..., at the time.
- > The government running liquor stores at no profit is a subsidy.
New Hampshire liquor stores contribute over $150MM to community programs a year. [0]. They had an annual profit of $170MM in FY2023.
- I think I should at least be able to see even a subset of the content that caused the item to be returned in the search result, though. If I try to navigate away or see more content, sure, make me log in. But, if I search something, click on a Twitter/Facebook/Linkedin result, I should at least be able to see something.
The search --> visit --> immediate redirect to login results should be de-ranked.
- TechGearLab[0] is a great, free resource, too. I have never been done wrong by one of their reviews and I have been using them for years.
- > I've been midsentence with them in person when they'd just pull out their iPad for a quick scroll, completely oblivious that I was even there or talking to them.
Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with this? I have a relative that does this all the time and it's beyond infuriating.
It's even gotten to the point where we'll be having a family discussion, they'll pull out there phone to text, come back to Earth, and then get furious with us because we don't fill them in to what they missed and restart the conversation at the point where they stopped listening.
I am at a total loss for words. The whole article makes my soul wane. Also on campus is an airplane-cabin interior, because sitting next to an executive on a plane could offer a golden opportunity—one young people should rehearse for. The campus concierge offers students airport shuttle service for free if they wear a High Point University shirt; otherwise it costs $95—a lesson in brand awareness.
The overviews on IMDB are usually pretty reliable, too.
