  1. I know it's mostly nostalgia, but this was the best time online for me. I was just a teen exploring GeoCities, tripod, and dot.tk directories. I found a lot of good friends in that time.

I miss the Glitch/GameShark crews that were around. =Bi0= was one of the best ones around.

  2. Thanks for the insightful comment. And thanks for taking a minute to read my words. I agree with you. I can be my own harshest critic sometimes. I'll do some reflecting on this over the long holiday weekend. Happy new year!
  3. Insightful for someone just starting to publish content! Thanks.

As an aside, personally, as a former RE for retro games, I called creating cheat codes for games "coding". I saw it as distinct from programming.

  4. One of us! That site is dope. Super useful for creating b-roll footage for videos.
  5. I'm working on building out a microservice ecosystem on OCI. I'm not formally educated so I just sort of stack things up and tear them down. I hardened my server and I am running dockerized services. I'm also running a web server that hosts the very start of my long-term personal site. It's been pretty challenging, illuminating, and down right fun. I've been putting down the controller for a terminal!

Seriously, I'm very proud of myself for the little I've accomplished so far. I don't have friends in tech so I don't get to talk about it or bounce ideas off people.

Thanks for letting me get that out!

  6. I want to start one myself. More of a public journal, but all the same. I keep having fits and starts and things distract me from the habit. That, and I'm never satisfied with my implementation in the end and I always want to try new or different things.
  7. I hit the same roadblock as the above user and it never occurred to me to just cross the barrier with cash and then scale back to free. Thanks for this.
  8. If we organized a content storm campaign we could make this effort moot. Time to start building a portfolio of dummy accounts to muddy the water. Remember... TAILS and fresh IP's for each account, ideally nodes you can get back on with ease. Use a public network if possible.

Bonus: You can also use these accounts to undermine the Online Safety Act at the same time!

  9. That's jawsome. Thanks for sharing! I'm sure this isn't the only show to get this treatment.
  10. Never heard of the platform, but it seems like a decent home for a mirror. Owning everything involved is definitely preferred, but there is still a place for sites like this. Shame that discovery is for paid users though.
  11. Thanks. The full page cookie consent with no "essential only" had me turning away from the article. No cookies are persistent in my browser but the lack of perceived choice is still irritating.
  12. These numbers are honestly ridiculous. I don't even know how you arrive to these valuations without seriously fudging things. It may as well say TSLA is worth a bajillion dollars. If your thing is "worth" orders of magnitude more than anyone would be willing to pay, guess what? It's really only as valuable as anyone would spend on it. Everything else is fluff.
  13. Man, this sucks. The man was a treasure in the R&B space. How Does It Feel is a staple track in all of my R&B playlists. I hope he and his family find peace. Thanks for sharing.
  14. Obsidian on my phone and laptop with Syncthing keeping things up to date. Also use the same platform to write posts for my personal site, using the git plugin to push and Github actions to spin up jekyll, build, and serve to my VPS. I'm just a tinkerer so it took me a while to arrive to this workflow but I find it quite smooth.
  15. What a loss. Hope he's rocking with Randy somewhere out there.

Don't miss the recent tribute of Mr. Crowley with Jack Black on vocals. It was truly awesome.

  16. A global rail network. Homestly, I just think it'd be kinda awesome. If you asked your local politicians if it would take unlimited funds to get started they'd likely say yes. Haha.
  17. I wonder how much time it would take to feed all of those singles into laundromat and barcade quarter machines. ;D
  18. Bots, OF Adverts, and Scammers all the way down.
  19. We definitely have evidence of cancer being present in the animal kingdom (that includes humans) deep into the fossil record so I might suggest that they are mistaken.

Pruitt, S. (2019, February 11). "How Old Is Cancer? At Least as Old as the Start of the Dinosaurs, Fossil Shows." HISTORY.

  20. I personally think that the fact that violent people exist shouldn't diminish our values regarding privacy and/or anonymity. I don't think you should accommodate messages such as the one WitchKing shared...but I think if you value privacy, your priority should be removing the user and the content, and not appealing to the Feds. Don't make it a safe space for either party, because neither of them are on your side.
  21. I'm multiracial, but I only ever choose White on forms. I don't really have anything to do with the other side of my family, and I don't relate to their culture. I have also lived in predominantly rural areas, and I didn't feel it benefitted me to claim my other half on forms that held any importance to me.
  22. One of the driving forces of my full windows exodus was Recall. I knew they wouldn't seriously scrap the project. Glad to see measures are being taken to avoid the spies. Shame it comes to DRM though.
  23. Hey! I'm interested in that local AVL signal group. I've lived here for 6 years and I haven't met any friends because I'm a recluse with children. If you'd be willing to share, I would be greatly appreciative. :D
  24. I still use PS7. No adobe creative cloud, and all you need to accomplish some awesome stuff.
  25. The sign up email including my username and password in the clear is more than a little concerning.
  26. The type of cheating I do rarely interfaces with other players, outside of enriching them with the spoils of my effort when I'm through. In a protracted way I can agree this "ruins the fun"...but not in the way that griefing does. I just spike in-game economies and leave. Balance is shortly restored.
  27. Let me preface this with a disclaimer. The games I cheat on are mostly private servers of active games, that exist in defiance of the companies Terms of Service. Mostly RuneScape servers or other MMOs being privately hosted. Whatever that caveat may lend.

This is exclusively what it is for me. I don't care about the games I cheat on at all. The game is finding ways to cheat that the host can't combat. If I can't beat them, I find a new private server. To be fair though, those guys generally don't have the resources or know-how to battle cheating to the degree major companies can and I'm a noob so it's a learning environment for me as well.
