  1. The comments on early Google circulating value resonate. As a web developer then it was great to add free Google services that enhanced my site/shared revenue (e.g site search, adsense, maps, analytics, etc). It's what I see really lacking in OpenAI's centralized approach. They've extracted all my old site data for their use but have offered no complementary value in return. Which is what this article speaks to in part.
  2. RIP Jimmy. ...one of the rare cases of a cover song being better than original imo. I Can See Clearly Now at https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MrHxhQPOO2c
  3. Along these lines I wonder how many people have been able to do triathlons for multiple decades (started in their 20s and still doing in 60s). This impressive woman started late and wondering if that gave her an advantage relative to joint stress...i.e. if you only get so many years
  4. I'm here. The Front Page doesn't seem to change much intraday (to me) and feels heavily moderated.
  5. This seems like a big shift for OpenAI into an enterprise applications vendor to me.
  6. It's optimized for the seller. The sales person that can actually determine good fit/bad fit can't also be making 100 calls a day. The BDR making 100 calls a day cannot determine good fit/bad fit on their own on the first call.
  7. It all started with Evel K. in the 70s I think. We'd see him on Wide World of Sports, get his cycle jumping toy as presents, etc. Everyone started building wooden ramps to emulate Evel. It was actually a lot of fun so long as you didn't add too much speed or ramp height.
  8. I'd say it most certainly killed the sort of dedicated small print classified ad publications you'd find at store checkout counters. But maybe those small pubs like The Want Advertiser (in Boston) were few and far between.
  9. Yes. It was the only time and place to see cartoons as a kid then. Missed Saturday AM TV? Gotta wait until next Saturday AM. As for ad effectiveness, wow, every single kid in your class saw that new HotWheels car advertised.
  10. In speaking with my republican father in law on his opposition to universal healthcare, it dawned on me that he views it as a sort of zero sum game. If he has healthcare today, and then universal healthcare offers it to folks that don't have it today, it is a loss for him.
  11. Yes (and tip of the hat to my fellow 00s Saab owners!)
  12. Yes I think so. People who have <other skill> can now more easily add basic coding to their skillset using AI tools. Perhaps AI gives the developer other skills too but maybe less of a force multiplier given their role.
  13. Gabe Newell thinks AI tools will result in a 'funny situation' where people who don't know how to program become 'more effective developers of value' than those who've been at it for a decade
  14. Use it to promote making friends in person. Perhaps a curated and editable list of actual 3rd spaces in the real world. All anonymous users (like HN), popular 3rd spaces can be voted up/down per city/town. Maybe each venue could include posts for meet times or events.
  15. Tom Brady's job as a color commentator may be in jeopardy ;)
  16. It's interesting to ponder that Chat might simply replace browsers and web pages. Not entirely for everyone, but I can see younger folks starting out online just using a chat interface (like Capt Kirk)
  17. Could an answer here be for smaller websites to convert their sites into chatbots which could prevent AI scrapers from slurping up all their content/drive up their hosting costs?
  18. Yes saw that but no suggestion that perhaps consciously or subconsciously they followed the Dead's template since the article focuses on their business model
  19. Surprised no nod to their following the path that their heroes blazed (Grateful Dead)
  20. Hello to my fellow Saab daily drivers silently nodding their heads ;)
  21. That'll be the day I go back to Annandale
  22. Yes that's what I did term 1. But, looking back, I could have saved a lot of time not following news stories that ultimately went nowhere (e.g. new healthcare & infrastructure plans, etc). The rhetoric was there, but the willingness to put words into action was not -- which is at the heart of my question.
  23. Pleasantly surprised to see this relates to the 1979 series. The cast photos section really needs to include some of the highlights of the show though: Jane Seymour, Maren Jensen, and Anne Lockhart ;)
  24. Informative article. For anyone looking for more on FMs 60s resurgence there is a decent documentary on Boston's WBCN. Trailer at https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ljlNTH9UIzU
  25. Pretty impressive whether you like Phish or not. Ringo needs to borrow this visual to sing Octopus's Garden in the Sphere: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fWMlWLYHcgc
