  1. Of course that's a viable option, but likely uses far more electricity in a year and unless you're going the high seas, unlikely to always get a better 4k HDR resolution from streaming services.
  2. Looking forward to the R2 and hopefully all goes smoothly.
  3. I wish if this U.S. administration and U.S. carmakers don't care to promote EVs, that they'd at least let in the Chinese manufacturers that are interested in them.
  4. I hope that Rivian does fine, but they still aren't profitable are they?
  5. For my new Bosch Benchmark dishwasher, "normal" actually uses 2.4 gallons and 1.25 kwh a load, is most efficient, and is quietest. There is no "eco" mode. "Auto" mode uses about twice the gallons no matter what's inside and slightly more kwh.
  6. Since switching to the $10ish Apple USB-C to headphone adapter vs. just plugging in my 3.5mm headset into the computer, the buzzing when gaming completely stopped for me. Cheap solution.
  7. Oh, that's fair point, except solar isn't relatively sparse in a lot of Republican led states too. Texas, Florida, North Carolina all have a relatively decent amount of solar, and Arizona does too which is... mixed?
  8. Tell that to South Dakota's wind farms?
  9. I don't disagree about it being politicized, but if you look at the states with the highest amounts of renewable generation, your second sentence is not supported. There is a LOT of wind energy in Republican-led states in places where wind makes sense.
  10. >But, the Left's problem is that instead of trying to raise everyone up they're bringing people down. It was that way in the USSR, and it's that way here. Where I used to live the Talented and Gifted program (which was state mandated) had a $1000 budget systemwide. The "equity" fund was almost a third of the budget. At that point why bother with public schools? It's taxation without representation.

Whether or not to cut gifted and talented programs is very much debated on the "left".

  11. That paper, which follows 106 people born in Denmark from 1975 and 1979, says there may be correlation coefficients of 0.48 or 0.50 for IQ groupings between ages (1) 4 and (2) 14 and 44 years. 0.48^2 is 23%, 0.5^2=25%, so if you accept everything else about this, this would mean 23%-25% of variance in the older years may be explained by IQ at 4... that strikes me as not enough to make your conclusions ("IQ is pretty stable from preschool onward) even if the rest of the study is concluded to be accurate.
  12. Wow, I have Mint and have not encountered this yet. What services have you seen block it?
  13. 2021 Model Y.
  14. There has been constant political discourse in the U.S. about keeping cheap Chinese EVs out of the United States (yes, I know Polestar and Volvo are owned by Chinese corporations, they are older and at higher price point). You may have missed this in the last couple years if you're not from the US, but it would be hard to miss if you're from here.
  15. Also no, an ID Buzz in an electric minivan, and I wouldn't inherently say it's better than an electric SUV. It gets pretty poor range and efficiency, and so a smaller SUV like a Model Y can make more sense if you don't need that extra storage capacity.
  16. The Model Y is commonly understood to be a SUV. You can't just make it not so because it doesn't fit your narrative.
  17. If American car manufacturers think no one will buy them anyway, I think we should let in all the cheap EVs that are available and see how it plays out then. Can't be worse off.
  18. Few years ago? Okay, few is 2 or 3 years. I see MSRP for a base model of Mirage in 2023 was $16,245... 2022 was $14,625? When I was buying a car in that time period, there were no discounts below MSRP anywhere I looked for almost anything. Especially anything cheap. I've read a lot of reports of big mark ups for even Mirage's during that time period.
  19. You've had backup cameras often fail? You must be very unlucky. After many years of driving and riding in cars with backup cameras, I have never seen one not work, let alone "often" not work.

Where is the ubiquitously proven support for the assertion that backup cameras don't increase safety?

  20. I don't follow this logic at all. We have a Model Y SUV. We use the space of its hatchback and frunk frequently, and it's much more efficient to drive than a Sienna or Odyssey. There's no logical reason to conclude a minivan would be better for our purposes.
