  2. Ah, you said blame them. I'd assumerd that meant you felt they were the cause of both. I was pretty confused. Thanks for clearing that up.

I am a fan of responsible firearm ownership, but not the NRA - by the way. I don't know if I'd blame them, but I'd agree that they contribute to the 'gun culture' that ends up with irresponsible people wanting to own firearms.

  3. And this led to the police militarization?
  4. Can you elaborate on why you want to blame the NRA?

I should disclose that I own a number of firearms, many of them sidearms, and don't like the NRA very much, nor have I ever donated to them or been a member. I'm just curious as to how you see them as being the source to blame.

  5. I am unsure what you want. But I can clear up your question.

On an electric guitar, and some acoustics, you will see a bar that they.call the whammy bar. This is often a tremolo bar by name. The truth of it is it is a vibratto bar

Vibrato modifies music by changing the pitch. It bends wires.

For reasons unknown, tremolo adjust by moving the volume. The real tremolo is inside your amp or in a pedal.

Where the confusion came from is still unknown. But, your tremolo is probably in an amp or pedal. Vibrato is by the bar they sometimes call a whammy bar.

  6. I ordered a sandwich in Cann River and got a plate of sandwich ingredients as an unassembled sandwich. This happened again in Melbourne. I'm skeptical of your whole country's sandwich making skills.
  7. Up here, we still consider Brunswick to be Northern Massachusetts.

Why does that matter? Nowhere in what my neighbors consider Maine actually wants Amazon. But, BNAS might be a brilliant location for it.

  8. If my experience in highway infrastructure is any guide, this is mostly futile. If they really want to slow it down, start with an environmental impact study. The best thing about it is the government has to pay for it and they are very subjective.

You can make a project take twice as long.

  9. Well, they still have people living. They could address that next.
  10. I'd not be so sure. It can almost always get worse.
  11. Neat, thanks! I could see a few valuable use cases, from customs to personal.
  12. My thinking was that one might be able to do it with their cell phone, with close up images. Then it could maybe tell things like stitching, material, precise color match, and maybe then be able to say if it is counterfeit.

I'm just not sure ML is yet that good. My thoughts were more about multiple pictures or a small video. I'd suspect that it could train itself further as the DB expands.

I'm just not sure how good it actually can be. It probably only has to be better than a layperson, though I could see more precise stuff used to scan by customs. Any percentage higher than the normal buyer of such would be better, assuming few false positives.

  13. I wonder if it will ever get good enough to detect counterfeit bags? My understanding is that they are a prolific problem.
  14. Heh... I stand up for the rights of Nazis to speak freely. Standing up for her isn't even going to get me bitched at.

However, free speech has consequences. This probably isn't a Constitutional matter, but she absolutely has the right to do this. They absolutely have the right (I'm pretty sure) to fire her.

So, I'm sympathetic but not surprised. Freedom of expression should be more than a part of the Constitution, it should be a societal goal. I'd much prefer a world where off-duty expression doesn't risk your employment but that's not up to me.

Err... Who are these 'free speech folks' that you're thinking of? We used to just call those people by the name, 'Americans.' The liberty of free speech applies to all, or none.

  15. https://www.tesla.com/blog/all-our-patent-are-belong-you

Sibling post also has the link but I don't want you to miss it.

  16. You're free to use their patents, there is no charge.
  17. The Model T was $575 in 1912, when the average salary was ~$600/year.
  18. I will have to spin up some spare drives and it's going to take a while. I'll do the SciMag, though it will take a few months to synch it all. I've got spare driver and will actually end up needing to set them in a new box. I've been meaning to do this project for a while but lacked a good reason.

    Thanks.

  19. I'll add the most recent. Thanks.
  20. Okay. I've got a dedicated seed box but it is only DSL. I have ample disk space.

What am I looking at, at that link? Is there a 'mirror the whole damned thing' torrent and how frequently should I update this?

I already mirror a bunch of Linux ISOs, so it's not a problem to add more.

  21. It is pretty abnormal for the US, but not unheard of.

The problem is, that mostly the only ones impacted are the people who were committing copyright infringement and they are a very small minority of the total population, poorly funded, and not a viable voting bloc.

It is going to be a tough battle. However, we have alternative means to reach the site.

  22. In fact, you may very well also be paying to get your research published. They get you coming and going.
  23. Is 'most' true? It may also matter whose tax dollars they were. Google isn't being helpful.

To be absolutely clear, I'm very much on the side of open publishing. I just want to be able to form a more accurate reasoning so that I can well explain it to others.

  24. Some people don't believe me when I tell them I've owned a home computer, with peripherals, that cost more than a new car of the same model year. Not just one, either.

When you started adding storage, a modem, daughter boards, etc., it got expensive.

  25. This is the same exploit, it's from Friday.
  26. Oh, I understand. I didn't help this problem. I sold my traffic modeling company to a larger group. It's a lucrative industry, even without gouging.
  27. 15-20% over the proper amount, above and beyond their normal profit. That's not all that unusual in that space. I worked in a field closely tied to the industry. I'm amazed it functions as well as it does.
