  1. I recommend Phind if you want to sources.
  2. Opening a terminal in admin window which means any commands you put in that windows will always have admin privilege, no matter what.

What does Sudo is to only provide the root/admin privileges for specific inputted command. Once it is done, it goes back to user privileges. This way, the terminal window didn't need to end the session to go back to user privileges.

  3. You can boot usb from UEFI. The only tool that I found is best to handle is Rufus. I used it to clean install my Windows through UEFI. Even Linux Live USB works. BalenaEtcher gives me problems, Rufus does it well for me.

Also I remember there is a setting in UEFI to allow booting from USB.

  4. There are both side of the coin when it comes to at-will employments with layoff. They can use it to get rid of high paying employees to hire lowest quality of employee for little pay that will affects the quality of their product. And they don't care because it looks good on their balance sheet. And there is no recourse for high paying employee against the company (unless they have a signed contracts that have a clause to prevent this).

My former job laidoff few people because of high paying salary. They got high salary because positions required a specialized and niche knowledge for their jobs. They are good at what they do which earned their justification for high paying. It took the company a year to hire a barely qualified person because they don't want to increase the pay after declined job offers from multiple potential candidates.

  5. I found Edge to be useful for Enterprise/Business environment. My previous job uses Office 365 E3 (and their email server) and entrenched with them for various external services such as MS Authenticator for SSO. It is easier use Edge for SSO since I don't need to keep typing out the complex password for my job. Whenever the password prompt show up in Edge, I click my work email account and it automatically log me in. I have one desktop and one laptop for remote work, it simpler with SharePoint/OneDrive to keep my work data synced between both computer. Edge have their uses in Enterprise/Business setting.

For personal use, I rarely use Edge. I only uses them for websites that have an issue with my Firefox with uBO and strict CORS. I avoid Chrome like it is a plague.

  6. If I pay for the storage, then it is my drive and my data.

The article didn't say anything about the free or paid GDrive accounts. If it is a free account, then that is up for debate. If it impacts the paid consumers, they paid for the service and it is their data.

  7. > I blame Windows Defender (anti-virus).

It would be nice if Windows Defender tone down their on-the-fly aggressive scanning for anything I/O related. For any I/O activity, it regularly consumes up to 30% of my CPU. Moving files to a different directory rev up Windows Defender even it scans the folder in the past.

I wish there is a granular control over Windows Defenders in a way that it would not be aggressive with every I/O activity. I would assume that Microsoft intentionally did this due to rise of randomware attacks and we unfortunately have inept people who mindlessly clicking anything. And they don't want to be liable for being lax.

  8. It don't? That's weird because I am able to use microtype package with XeLaTeX.

Ohhh I see, I look it up. Apparently, it support specific feature[0] of microtype in XeLaTeX.

  9. YouTube will re-encode videos to optimize their playback experience. Which means there will be a generational loss in the re-encoding. YT have maximum requirements for their playback. If the source file exceed those, they will lower it.

Handbrake is useful for lots of things. My partner have to upload his dissertation defense video and the university have strict requirement of the formats. He used Handbrake to convert his video to their formats of choice. It works well for him on his aging 10 years old MacBook Pro (upgraded the HDD to SSD years ago).

  10. This is neat thing! Is there similar site for non-profit organizations or private sectors?
  11. My issue with online ordering is that I will be missing higher degree of customizability, options and allergies for some case. Online ordering does not cover edge cases. If I like the ingredients that comes with the food, then online ordering is awesome. If I want to further customize it, I am limited to online ordering offerings (in some case, I barely could).

I found in-person ordering is reliable enough that they know what I am asking for and could try to swap out a different menu to get me a cheaper price for the same quality. In online ordering, it didn't have an ability to do that. If I order a cheeseburger and remove the cheese, it is just a hamburger. In-person ordering knows that and would change it hamburger, the online ordering does not and keep it as cheeseburger minus the cheese while keeping it as cheeseburger price.

  12. Really? That sucks. I guess it would be better to get a custom keypad with rotary encoders that would expose itself.

I found it interesting how companies invest heavy in hardware and don't bother to improve the software side.

  13. Could it help if the driver have those axes assigned to a different key to allow AHK to pick that up and AHK can change it as axes? I done that with my XP-PEN AC-19, I assigned the dial wheel to different keys in XP-PEN software and AutoHotInterception with AHK to pick that up. Then assigned it with wheelup/down depending on what active window I am on.
  14. Would it help with scripting macro software such as AutoHotKey? I imagine it wouldn't pick up some inputs due to proprietary driver.

It have the same issue for my Logitech G600 that it can't pick up some inputs. I set up the macros in LGHUB with keystrokes (multiple modifiers with keys) and use AHK to grab those and expands the capabilities of my G600 than what LGHUB offers.

  15. Apple is well known for their extremely optimized software due to their tight integration with hardware and software. This would make sense to keep it 8GB for Apple-only software idealistically. Realistically, those modern software are not optimized for any OS. I had MBA M1 4GB, it wasn't enough. I imagine macOS put memory compression to constant heavy use and swap.
  16. Me too. For past few weeks, I had been working on my AHK scripting with Phind. It produced working code consistently and provided excellent command line for various software.

Also I use it for LaTeX, too. It is very helpful providing various package than trying to hunt more information through Google. I got a working tex file within 15 min than it took me 3 weeks 5 years ago!

  17. Winget is great package manager. I am staying with Chocoately due to WinGet have less software in their catalogue. WinGet are missing software that I regularly use in my Windows that I am able to get it through Chocoately.

It missing some like mupdf, TeX Live, Tixati, Q-Dir, Emulators, UMLs, etc. Through it have MiKTeX but I was burned by miktex's package update procedure weirdness.

  18. My issue with updates/downloading is the lack of software manager to updates software in Windows. It was a pain to go to various websites to download a package and install/upgrade a updated version. Back then when I have Win 98SE, I relied on FileHippo to scan and provide information if there are updates for my installed software. In XP and Win7, I only update software that have issue or something that I need to check. It was nice for some software that come with their own updater. I was thinking about my experienxe with Ubuntu (Ibex version) with their apt-get and the package manager. To my surprise, there are package managers for Windows, Chocolatey and Scoop. This was before Windows Store come to fruitation. Chocolatey is my main package manager for my Windows and I had been using it ever since. This allows me to have a peace of mind for me to updates my software particularly command line tools, Chocolatey made it easy for me and automate the environment variables for me if the software needs it. And no more for me to open up Google and search for the name of the software, `choco search <app_name>` and it will give me a list of the software and I just install from there. I use `choco upgrade all -y` and it just handles it without needing my input further.
  19. You can view pure HTTP website through VPN. It basically encrypted tunnel between you and VPN server through your ISP. So your ISP couldn't try to interject the encrypted connection.

However, your browser might prevent you from connecting to http due to strict https only policy. My browser will stop any connection to http page and throw up a warning.

  20. One of the reasons is to prevent ISP and other to intercept the page and interject the codes before it arrives to the users. It a common method to put the payload in the http. I believe it called middle-in-the-man method. With https, it reduced a lot of attacks.

There was a news about Comcast interjected a Steam storefront page with a data cap warning on it to a Comcast subscriber. And this happened inside Steam app which was using http at the time.

  21. I recently discover Plind [0], it is a ChatGPT that specialized in programming. It managed to get me a specific code that actually work with keycombo that ChatGPT struggling to produce. Maybe Plind can help you out with that?

  22. That's why I uses Ditto Clipboard Manager in Windows. I have it set to use paste without formatting (paste in plain text) as default.

I recalled Windows can do it by using Ctrl+Shift+V which paste without formatting. Just a extra key to make it happen.

  23. ChatGPT relies on examples to get the idea of what to do. Likely that ChatGPT don't have enough samplings across the web to know how to convert it. Even through there are documentations and man pages, but they tend to lack examples of how to do it. Usually I see in forums and discussion board that they are snippets of code that didn't provide enough context of the whole script. ChatGPT is doing its best to provide the code based on the knowledge it has. Perhaps it didn't scrap AHK scripts enough to provide a better code? Possible it didn't have enough information of how to convert ahk1 to ahk2? If that is the case, then it would be best to start fresh.
  24. It is a state-run department that provides various services related to employment such as unemployment benefits, career development, job coaching, networking, job classes, certifications & additional services for people with disabilities.
  25. Yea that can happen. I found the best way to do it is baby steps. I asked it to do point a then it will create a simple small script. Then I follow up with how I do point a to point b, then it will start to add or revise the code a bit. Then I do point c and keep adding it. It is better to break down the process and provide it in chucks of what you want it to do, it fare better to provide you something.

If it start to get off the rail, I copy the code and close the chat. Then I create a new chat and tell it to use this code as a strict reference. And I tell it what I am trying to do, then it starts to improve the code further.

I found that it is best to give it my snippet of code and it will be able to use it as a template and modify it from there.

For your case, if you want to convert it from ahk1 to ahk2, give it a small section of the script. And it should be able to convert it from there. If that didn't work, then you could start from fresh and tell it of what you want in ahk2 script.

  26. Same for me. I was amazed by the ability of ChatGPT. My first experience of ChatGPT was an assistance with the cover letter for the position and it gave me few paragraph that I modified to my own. It was nice to have a feedback from it that I can ask about the tone of my letter and response, it provided valuable information for me to improve my writing.

Now I use ChatGPT for scripting help especially LaTeX. It took me 3 weeks to produce a "Hello World" PDF 5 years ago and it took ChatGPT to provide me the completed tex code within 15 minutes few weeks ago. Ever since, I been exploring a lot of LaTeX syntax and see how much I can do with it with ChatGPT help. Now, I am learning about using `hyperref` package for interactive fields in PDF. I have produced few Word document for forms with tables in the past (tables in Word is a complicated b*tch) and used external PDF editor to add the interactive field for form filling. Now I am working on converting those Word documents to LaTeX.

Also, ChatGPT is a big help with AutoHotKey script & UserScript for TamperMonkey. I told ChatGPT of my intention and what I am trying to do. It produced the script exactly what I expected to work. ChatGPT is a amazing tools to use for a lot of thing.

  27. Fast give me 300Mbps. I haven't tried out Cloudflare speedtest until now, it give me 335Mbps. My internet package is 300Mbps, so it is consistent with the speed that I get from my ISP.
  28. There are ISPs out there that give priority and optimized the speed to Ookla Speedtest whenever the browsers connected to it. This causes skewed results believing that we are getting the speed we paid for when it is not in reality. In a way, it would do "unlimited speed" the maximum it can go just for this test.

Netflix Fast are connected to multiple Netflix CDNs throughout regions. They will get a realistic speed meter and difficult for ISPs to fake it.

  29. I believe you can. It couldn't hurt to ask.
  30. > I am tempted to try a sleep study and see what I might learn.

I strongly recommend to get sleep study, they will help to find the root of the symptoms.

10 years ago, I have issues with my sleeping pattern, waking up tired and still tired during the day. After my sleep study, I discovered I have sleep apnea which affects how I breathe during my sleeping cycle. After the diagnosis, I got a CPAP from my insurance and been using it ever since. It improved my sleep quality and I am able to dream more often than before.

If you have the same diagnosis as mine in the future, it will take some time to get used to Bi/CPAP. It can take up to a year to get used to it, it took me two years get used to wearing a mask. I was horrified to learn from my Somnologist that 90% of his patients are not consistent with CPAP usage or don't bother to use them. I know a friend's husband, who is a Physician Assistant, have the same diagnosis and refused to use the CPAP. His wife been begging him to use it because she can hear how he sleep during the night. Still to this day, he refused to use it and still complaining about the sleep quality.
