  1. > I find this framing to be beyond maddening.

Yeah, it's like the people who say, oh, the iPhone mini was a flop. That was a BILLION DOLLAR product. How many companies would LOVE to have a billion dollar product???

  2. The Heritage Foundation has been operating since 70s. They've played the long game, and it's only now that we are, en masse, looking at the culmination of decades of work by them and thinking, "wow, that was quick!".
  3. > Lot of arrogant people here who think they are safe and better than anybody and blame OP.

You see this a lot in the Apple "community". Apple can _never_ do wrong. Apple can _never_ make a mistake. Apple's choices are _always_ the best choices.

I don't understand why people put corporations on pedestals.

  4. Do I want a job that exploits me, or do I want no job at all.

    Wow, quite the decision.

  5. I feel like when they introduced the neurological engine, they got away from the previous algorithm and it's just gone to shit since then. Apple being Apple, they John Force their way to victory by keeping their foot on the gas even when the wheels are spinning and the engine is smoking.
  6. I printed this out (so I could have it with me everywhere) and read it when I was younger. It was so cool to see it come together so quickly. Some of these works (this one, Beej's guides, etc) are some of the best CS documentation we have and don't get nearly the credit they deserve.
  7. We should ban voting aged people from using them.
  8. Right? Past couple years software quality has taken a shit.
  9. Yes, much the way some used to (still do?) try and emulate Steve Jobs. There's always some successful person these types are trying to be.
  10. It nuked the tail engine so actually TWO engines failed.
  11. Yep. Now do 3 decades of metal fatigue.
  12. 4 decades on and there are STILL people trying to get everyone to say “GNU Linux”.

Everyone knows Linux is the kernel. Nobody CARES.

  13. There's no difference between ICEBlock and Google/Waze reporting on police activity on I5.
  14. > Like, people get real work done every day at scale with C# and C++.

That would be me. I _like_ C#, but there are elements to that language that I _never_ work with on a daily basis, it's just way too large of a language.

Go is refreshing in it's simplicity.

  15. The poor are food insecure. This leads to obesity not because they have access to an abundance of food but because their access to food is not stead, leading to over eating to compensate, and the food they can afford is not healthy.
  16. That is an external problem to the bitchat app.
  17. Is it their job to do that?
  18. I wish phones supported 802.11ah for things like this.
  19. Hopefully most of what the bots are ruthlessly scraping is all the AI slop that is filling YT. Hopefully garbage in - garbage out will kill off all the AI nonsense.

yes, "AI" can be useful, but nonsense and slop are not.
