- Grazester parentSomewhat related yet not. I had a Dell laptop near kill itself waking up while in my backpack and near melting itself. I think I blame Windows update for this though. This resulted in the laptop not being able to power on most of the times after that.
- When I was 12 years old I got run off the road while riding my BMX bicycle when a car pulled into my lane to park on my side of the street. I was going about 12-20 mph and could not stop since I only had rear brakes. I just locked the rear tire and the bike continued sliding on the dust covered road side.
I went over a platform and into a small garage pit used for burning trash. After I stopped rolling, I dusted myself off and thought, "well, that could have been worse". Then came a man running towards me, grabs my elbow and pulls the head of a broken bottle out of it. Blood started spraying everywhere of course.
After one of my friends that was riding with me used his shirt as a tourniquet, the man flagged down a (private) mini bus(that provides public transportation), to me to the hospital, stayed with me then, paid my bus fare and then took me back home to my neighbourhood.
I never saw the man again even though he probably lived in the neighbourhood next to mine.
Recently in NYC, I was offloading my car when a girl with a box of croissants and cookies came up to me as asked if I wanted a croissant. She that she mistakenly bought more than she could eat. I looked at her as if she fell from space for a second and she noticed. She then said she bought the from a nearby bakery and they were perfectly fine as she continued eating one herself. I hesitantly took one, which was still warm and bite into it. It was great and I told her girl so and thanked her.
I went inside with my croissant in hand and told my wife what had happened. I got the scolding of my life for eating food from a stranger. I had to throw the rest of the crossiant away of course. That sucked because that one bite was so good.
- I have a car from 2017 that is perfectly dumb. It had been a rehash of a car being produced since 2010 though. All other models of the same year by the manufacturer had telemetry, mobile app start etc. All those models are now dumb though since for those earlier years they used 3G wireless which is now a dead spectrum.
- ...Not a damn thing. Makes you wonder if people on here connect their smart tv to the net just to find a complicated solution to make it dumb again.
Someone is going to run in here talking about how smart TV's randomly connect themselves to wifi, which is absolutely nonsense.
HN things I guess.
- Those mountain road around the area perfect for a "sports" car. BTW, there are sports cars(Miata,BWM M4,M2, Porsche, Supra, Nissan Z), super cars(standard Ferrari's, lambos,McLarens etc) and there are hyper cars(Pagani, koenigsegg, upper tier Ferrai's and McLarens).
No one in LA with money is buying a sports car to "flex".
- My address is the same. Someone with my name thinks their email address is firstlast@gmail.com
Its annoying especially since we have the same bank and they are not very good at paying their credit card on time. I therefore get their bank emails. Initially It will always have me confused as weight wait. I don't have any balance on my credit card. Was this fraud?
- I have used Windows hibernate since Windows XP and never had an issue with devices after resuming Windows. Within recent years on Windows 10 I have gone months without a restart, only hibernating my pc. In the early days I used a custom built pc. In the later years(post 2005) I have only used laptops, mostly Dells with a sprinkling of Lenovos; if that matters.
I don't know why Windows now hides it from the power menu by default now.
- I have an acquaintance who has lived most of his life without kidneys(40 years). Looking in from the outside, his life seems normal; go to the gym and have a beer or two like anyone would, except for the dialysis trips.
I then have a relative into their late 60's that was very laxed about diabetics within recent years. This has lead to kidney issues. They are refusing dialysis because of I guess the stigma attached to it. Now they are experiencing a cognitive decline due to poorly functioning kidneys.
I guess when you want to live you would do whatever it takes.

- He wasn't even a fonder of Tesla. He was just a investor that became the CEO.
And the tweet below makes me question a lot about him. Doesn't sound like a genius to me.
"Lidar and radar reduce safety due to sensor contention. If lidars/radars disagree with cameras, which one wins?
This sensor ambiguity causes increased, not decreased, risk. That’s why Waymos can’t drive on highways.
We turned off the radars in Teslas to increase safety. Cameras ftw."
- Yep.It this did much damage because places so far North East never experienced storm and so they never built with that in mind.
In place that experience this kind of weather more often(some parts of the Caribbean), it would have been business as usual the next day and I speak from experience.
- What snow and ice? We don't get much of that anymore. That was actually the last thing I am worried about here. I really want to see how Waymo does with NYC drivers and obstacles(double parking on block where sometimes you have to pull in your mirrors just to get by(if you even take the chance instead of just laying on your horn). In some neighborhoods it can be so annoying.
