  1. The description of the video states it is in fact AI:

    > A synthesized text-to-video voiceover was used in the narration for this story.

  2. Is it? We've switched over to System.Text.Json entirely.
  3. I switched over entirely to Rider as well, in my experience it's far more performant, has a far smoother UX, has a lot more functionality for power users, and includes Resharper by default, giving you access to a bunch more powerful inspections and refactoring.
  4. In my experience with Tauri, it's pretty good on Windows, but not so much on other platforms, especially Linux. The decision to target different browser engines on each operating system means you still have to deal with a bunch of different OS-specific bugs.

    For Windows you're dealing with Edge (so Chromium), on macOS you have Safari, and on Linux you have WebKitGTK. WebKitGTK has honestly abysmal performance, and you're missing a lot of modern standards.

    The Tauri devs are looking at bundling a Chromium browser with it to deal with that, but that's still some time off, and leads to the same issue Electron has, where you have large bloated applications.

  5. They're very careful in not making any real political statements, which makes sense considering it's the heads of both the military intelligence service and general intelligence service. Here's the relevant quotes thrown through Google Translate:

    *Are you more cautious about sharing certain information?*

    Reesink: “I can’t comment on what that relationship is like now compared to before. But it’s true that we make that assessment and sometimes don’t share things anymore.”

    *That’s a striking shift. What has been the most important change?*

    Akerboom: “We don’t judge what we see politically, but we look at our experiences with the services. And we are very alert to the politicization of our intelligence and to human rights violations.”

    *What does it mean in practice if there are risks in those areas?*

    Akerboom: “Sometimes you have to consider each case individually: can I still share this information or not?”

  6. The article they cite from De Volkskrant does mention the reasoning why some information is being restricted; the politicizing of information, and the violation of human rights.

  7. And the defence of "there was no communication between the two brothers and the traders" feels really weak as well. Of course there was a communication, they put a trade offer online, and it was accepted by a trader, albeit automatically.

    The search terms for how to evade fraud is also not going to help them.

    I wonder if their lawyer advised them not to take the plea deal, it doesn't sound like they have a high chance of getting away with it.

  8. It was originally called Nodemation, but the creator thought it was too long, so he shortened it to that, pronounced n-eight-n.

  9. It's basically a piece of software for doing visual programming where workflows can be triggered by events (webhooks, web calls, and a bunch of other things). Has a self-hosting option which is quite nice.
  10. Also because Java, .NET, etc. all have very expansive standard libraries. You don't need to import most stuff, as it's already built-in.
  11. Does anyone know how this compares to other products in its field, such as LanguageTool and Harper? LanguageTool can be hosted locally, and Harper runs entirely as an extension, so I'm interested in how the spelling and grammar checks compare.
  12. The SEARCH verb draft was superseded by the QUERY verb draft last I checked. QUERY is somewhat more adopted, though it's still very new.
  13. That directive (Radio Equipment Directive of 2022) has been in effect since December 2024, so fairly recent.
  14. What is becoming more obvious is that people on Hacker News apparently do not understand the concept of non-determinism. Acting as if the output of an LLM is deterministic, and that it returns the same result for the same prompt every time is foolish.
  15. Adding absolutely useless comments everywhere. In this case, adding a footer comment above a footer element.
  16. Yeah, looking at that blog source, I can definitely tell it's been generated by an LLM.

    ``` <!-- Footer -->
        <footer class="py-3" style="margin-top:5rem;">
    ```
  17. What do you mean, new? LTO has been in GCC since 2011. It's old enough to have a social media account in most jurisdictions.
  18. Also note that The Netherlands frequently does constitution changes, even with that complexity. Our current version for example dates from 2022, when (among other changes) the secrecy of correspondence was amended to include all telecommunication, as it only included communication of letter, phone, and telegraph before that.

  19. The EU and the EBU don't have much to do with each other. The ban on Russia was mostly due to several broadcasts threatening they would pull out if the EBU didn't.

    For Israel the topic was seen as more divisive, and broadcasts didn't boycott it, though some spoke out against Israel's participation.

  20. To be entirely fair, that's the same experience I've had with some coworkers.
