  1. I find myself digging up this case every few years to share with coworkers when we're discussing writing fault-tolerant code.
  2. This has to be one of the quickest valuations past a billion. I wonder if they can even effectively make use of the funds in a reasonable enough timeline.
  3. what's the pay like?
  4. Project Hail Mary was also my favorite book of 2023, and probably the best sci-fi I've read in a decade. You're in for a real treat!
  5. Issue #1 irks me so much. Often I'll find myself having gone through many things in a list opening all in new tabs. Only to check my first tab 5 minutes later and find the same page reloaded.
  6. I've just been using a combination of the Reddit API and PushShift, warehousing data in such a way where it makes sense for Shop By Sub since Sept 2020.

Using the PushShift API, I started backwards in time and searched for a bunch of different regexes I thought were important, slowly creeping my way towards the present.

Using the Reddit API, I wrote a script to do a deep dive into specific subreddits, so I could index more popular ones first.

It's mostly just patience to get the amount of data I've got :) (and PushShift can't be overstated, it's very useful).

A mailing list isn't a bad idea. I'll have to figure out a way where the user can see a sign up box, but have it not be intrusive. I've been thinking of adding infinite scrolling to the most recents on the homepage, too, just for folks who are curious as to what weird things Reddit is talking about

  7. Oh wow I did something very similar, just dumber.

    https://shopbysub.com

I have a raspberry pi gathering Reddit comments with an Amazon link in them every hour, then exposing them on Shop By Sub categorized by subreddit, sorted by upvotes.

Same with OP I put my Amazon referral link in there.

It's been decently well-received by Reddit, but I have a hard time getting recurring users. It seems like they just forget about it by the time they need a Reddit recommendation again.

Best of luck in the space OP!

  8. My dog loves his for security; we always leave it open and whenever he feels stressed out he'll go in there for a bit to recharge. We have a blanket over the top and sides with the crate under the stairs so it feels like a cave to him!
  9. It would be nice if you could filter by salary

  11. Fund minimums
  12. While index funds were arguably a much much more important step, there were few funds you could invest in for less than $3,000 up until several years ago. And those that were less than $3,000 initial investment were around $1,000. A lot of folks can't afford that all at once.
  13. This is something that I would be concerned with. If you have a multiplayer game like Runescape, and have CD on the servers, introducing a bug that causes corrupted data may be able to be patched quickly, but in that hour a lot of players could have been given items that they shouldn't have had. Then you have to distinguish which got the items properly and which didn't, and have processes set up to make those kinds of admin changes to the prod db
  14. I'm working on a site that grabs Amazon products from Reddit comments and groups them by subreddit. It's called https://ShopBySub.com

My affiliate link got rejected by Amazon several times for not having enough original content though. So right now it generates no revenue, and they haven't been able to give me any real feedback as to what constitutes original content, or how deals sites can get away without having original content.
