  1. I switched from OpenAI models to using Anthropic ones some time ago, and every once in a while I briefly check in again just in case. I continue to be amazed at how infuriating OpenAI's agents are. They do things I never asked for, make decisions I didn't ask them to make, impute assumptions I never suggested, and just generally rapidly piss me off. I find it maddening, and then I immediately switch back to using Claude and it's like an immediate wave of relief washes over me because Claude just always seems to follow along with me and do what I actually want.
  2. A new surface vehicle for naval warfare is absolutely bonkers in the modern era. Even in the littoral space where notionally you don't have the depth for a sub-surface launcher, the LCS project was a complete bust. For anything in deep water, a submarine platform is so much more useful for projecting force and not a sitting duck.
  3. Yes but you have to account for the barely-functioning melted brain factor. Reality just can't compete when an old man goes "pew pew! zoom!"
  4. On macOS if you drag a synced HEIC photo from Photos.app to the Finder it automatically gets converted to a JPEG.
  5. > everything seems to have settled on 5.1

Not exactly. LuaJIT has backported various hot features from 5.2 and 5.3 as long as they're unlikely to break 5.1 code.

  6. That video has so few pixels and so few frames, there is no way to say who that is or what they are doing or if the video is even real.
  7. Maybe they're anti-capitalist.
  8. > During the same period, mortality inequality across counties rose 30 percent, accompanied by an increasing rural health penalty

Surely women aren't a 30% greater percentage of rural county dwellers than urban county dwellers, though?

  9. Developments in technology, innovation, and commerce are all inherently value-laden, because those things are nothing without their users and their uses and their contexts, and values are politics. Eliminating politics from HN just means eliminating HN.

I notice that your style of pleading appears only ever on articles of a very particular subject category, namely conversations highlighting a particular US group being liars and grifters and abusers, and not on any of the other inherently political subjects discussed on HN, like

    software freedom,

    the value of historical preservation,

    the moral position of hacking,

    libel,

    the justice of DRM,

privacy and the inherent injustice and dangers of televisions monitoring what you watch,

how old is old enough to use social media,

AI eliminating, or not eliminating, people's livelihoods that they depend on to eat, house, and clothe themselves,

whether AI training data is spying, stealing, or fair use,

the human value of AI-generated media,

whether warrants should be needed to access data about you,

whether data about you is yours,

the relationship between increased accumulation and centralization of wealth and decreased personal autonomy,

    and so on.

I find it strange how participants in your refrain don't seem to see the politics in those conversations, only in this particular one. It's almost like your values and politics are showing. This suggests to me a non-rigorous understanding of the reach of what politics means and where it comes from.

  10. I'm annoyed by the stay, but I'm more annoyed that the desired penalty is just a 30 day suspension. No fine, no refunds for sales made under false pretenses.
  11. Cameras could do it if:

    * they were positioned for stereopsis like the human visual system

    * had 6 degrees of motion freedom like the human visual system

    * were hyper-adaptive to lighting conditions like the human visual system

    * had a significantly higher density of pixels per degree of arc in the focus region like the human visual system

    * and were backed by a system capable of intuiting object inertia like the human visual system.

    Tesla does none of those.

  12. Tell me that $20/month is a notable amount of expense for your business spending 41 hours per week on workflows. Go on.
  13. > some large companies

Any "large companies" don't give a shit about things at this cost level. They spend more on the time it takes you to open the door. The number of CI minutes could be astronomical and it still wouldn't rate above the threshold of caring. The time people in this thread have spent wringing their hands is way more expensive.

  14. Everyone in this thread has gone absolutely insane. $5/month gets you 41 fucking _hours_ of continuous operation. If you're not utterly abusing the platform, this falls extremely below the threshold of caring. And if not, what the fuck are you even doing with all those hours? The new per-minute charge is less than one millisecond of engineer labor cost.
  15. > I realise 100% utilisation isn't realistic

It's worse than unrealistic. It's ludicrous. Any company running more than an hour of actions workflows per week on GitHub can afford a few dollars a month for infrastructure. The per-minute charge is less than the cost of a millisecond of engineering labor time.

  16. > hideous

That's just, like, your opinion, man. I disagree. Don't imagine yourself as the universal subject.

    > inaccessible

I have no trouble whatsoever navigating and understanding the page with VoiceOver, and it obviously passes contrast and color rules for readability.

    > and borderline unusable

Completely disagree. It's literally arranged text on a page. There's nothing to "use".

  17. Are you going to make your robots pay taxes? The idea that immigrants are a tax or crime burden is a stupid myth.
  18. It has no load progress indicator.
