You can draw the relation to some extent. When I conduct interviews for software developers it's a 50/50 split between technical acumen and cultural fit. I've often brought on people who flunked the technical part of the interview just because they have good energy and a likable personality.
Interviews are incomparably easier than good programming competitions.
I mean, job interviews are very competitive, they are time constrained, and they result in a binary decision made by some external authority, just like competitions.
