Yesterday I was using the official mobile app for ChatGPT 4o and I realized several weird behaviors:

- while asking questions in English, suddenly they were translated to Polish on the fly, and ChatGPT started answering in Polish. Later I saw in the chat text, that my question was written indeed in Polish.

The conversation was about algorithms and implementations topics and not a single word was in Polish. But some previous conversations (very rare) were indeed in Polish.

- while asking about examples of writing a Motivation Letter (in a new chat), suddenly there were references to programming languages and frameworks I have discussed in older chats, and not anything other (like PHP and Java but no C#, Rust or similar).

Did any of you noticed similar cross-references between chats?

Maybe you have the memories feature activated for your account. You can inspect the memories’ entries.

Settings > Personalization > Manage Memory
You were right about the Memories! I found that "Memory updated" thing at one point, so that would explain the Motivation Letter examples.

But...

"Memory is disabled. ChatGPT won't use or create memories."

and nothing is stored there. Weird.

Still, the on-the-fly translation remains a mystery

Thank you for this hint. I checked both the app and the website and I don't have this feature. Or maybe I do have it in the chat but not yet visible in Settings...? I will keep an eye on this.
